I would start with 23mil for next year. If Cubs want 4, and jake wants 7 somewhere like 5 plus 2 options. They could be conditional with heavy buyouts. Something like 12-15 mil guaranteed each. So now we’re at roughly 50 mil with 4 years of primo 32mil a season. I think 7 year 185 mil is not bad to start. It’s still a discount, but then they can go something as high as 200 over 7 if he makes the conditional 6th year 215 if he makes 7th. I know Cubs really don’t want to go more than 5, but they have no legit pitching coming up in two years. I would be shocked if a deal doesn’t get done. The young-ins are cheap now, they could even front load the deal and include an opt out after 3 with injury provision. As a Cubs fan, I want him to retire a cub.

No way Scott Boras gives the Cubs or any team one option year let alone two

Another good extension candidate: Addison Russell looking at 3-4 mil for 1st year arb, 6-8 2nd, 9-12 for 3rd and 12-16 for 4th (I think he’ll be a super 2. 30-38 for arb years. 18-20 per fa year. 66-78mil for 5 years with two option. I know it’s a lot, but Addison is only going to get better.

Cubs have six years (counting this year) of control on Russell left
