I would bite on the commitment to their own prospects, if it wasn’t for their attempts to sign FA veterans like Cespedes, Heyward, Zobrist and O’Day. That they did try to sign them and failed, leads me to believe their faith in their young players was not their first choice, but simply became the necessity. Releasing Pappelbon was an option that should have been given more consideration.

Gave them a C. Just signing Murphy doesn’t automatically justify losing so many players that could’ve and probably will rebound from bad 2015s. Drew is good depth, but not a regular. Their improvements to the pen were the only reason I didn’t flunk them. Despite all.of it though, they’re still the second best team in the NL East.

Their offseason could be summed up if it were a movie as ” Just Outside”. They missed all their targets, but still field a good team. They better keep Rizzo, otherwise he’ll end up in LA with all the other former GM’s. Except, he’ll get a job rather quickly. Rizzo reallocates the Nationals currency as soon as it becomes available and continues to spend at the top of their budget even through financial restrictions that are in place due to the MASN deal. Such a talented team and they never seem to reach their expectations. But, I guess you can’t even come close unless you field a team that can at least contend, and the Nationals seem to do that every year under Rizzo.

personally I think that they should have dipped deeper in the FA pool with strasburg in a walk year that is pretty devoid of pitching. If the don’t go for it in 2016 they most likely will have to wait 2018 or beyond.

Like a mid-level multi-year deal for a Gallardo type? Or make a play for a big guy like Greinke? I think the team is still pretty good and will win the East. Murphy getting on base in front of Harper will get it done.

I wonder if they have clubhouse chemistry problems or other internal issues and that’s why they missed out on almost every major free agent they tried to sign
