Not that it’s likely relevant, but I’m pretty sure David Ortiz’s option can vest with enough plate appearances. At least that’s how the Cot’s page reads.
Steve Adams
I’m pretty certain that Ortiz’s 2016 option was the only one that had a vesting component, with the 2017 option serving strictly as a club option. I’ll look into it to be sure though. (Even though, as you said, it’s of little actual consequence with his impending retirement.)

Cots is unclear – I agree that it sounds like 2017 is the same as 2016. However this article from NESN explains it quite clearly as a team option : nesn.com/2014/03/david-ortiz-contract-details-2016…

It would be great if we could convince enough voters to push Matt Holliday into the top 10 in the MVP voting, just to force the option to vest. What’s the best place to get a list of BBWAA voters, so that we can get this campaign going?

“If Iannneta starts 100 games in 2016 and does not finish the season on the disabled list due with an injured hip,”….. Shouldn’t “with” be changed to “to” or just take out “due” all together? Sorry to nitpick grammar, Steve, just something that caught my eye

Also a typo, also fixed. Thanks for pointing out.

“The option was initially could have also vested based on combined playing time from 2015-16”
-probably should take out “was” in this sentence also for your analysis on the coco crisp option

The grammar police have no jurisdiction on sports sites.

Every reputable sports site has coherent writing….when you get a job as a MLB writer, thecoffinnail, you can make your own rules. Until then, sports writers are held to a higher standard than your pure lackadaisical approach.
Why not strive for perfection? Especially if it’s such an easy fix?
Jeff Todd
It was a typo, and it has been fixed.

… with the Rockies. Steve was referring to his time in STL.
