Bud Norris to the Dodgers?
yeage004
The dodgers need a bigger name than Norris to follow Kershaw. I’d say go ahead and get Teheran or Moore or any of the Rays pitchers.
Sam.rhodes16
What would they be giving up for Teheran?
Sam.rhodes16
A package headlined by de Leon, Holmes, and verdugo would probably interest the braves
grngt50
I agree, Braves would be looking for a big haul. I feel like that package is too steep though. Let’s keep the farm system strong and stocked!
BlueSkyLA
Either one would be little more than a bandaid on a gaping wound. Friedman’s entire approach to constructing a roster has failed miserably. Stick a fork in it, this season is done. Time to admit that, can Friedman, find someone who actually knows how to do this job, and start thinking about next year.
mikey_mags
It’s not Friedman’s fault that everyone is getting hurt…and even though they may have all sucked, it speaks a testament to the depth he has procured that they can try 9 different starting pitchers to fill in for an injured one, not many organizations would be able to pull that off.
yonkers22
And how many wins has that equated to?
Yeah, what a genius.
This team is abysmal…from the lack of offense to the crappy bullpen (for the second straight year, I might add), and this very subpar rotation outside of Kershaw, I just don’t see how people keep on defending this FO
BlueSkyLA
He constructed a poor roster. Kershaw has carried this team on his back, so no wonder it’s sore. Without him, this team has a losing record. That’s how unbalanced it was from day one due to the failure to sign a legitimate #2. The Dodgers are now 2-12 I believe in games started by the emergency call-ups. They are now on the edge of overusing Urias and jeopardizing his development because they’ve got no other options. Half of the bullpen is useless, which does not come as any surprise, because these same pitchers were useless last year too. This does not speak to brilliance.

The poor bullpen that has the best ERA in the NL?
yonkers22
Spoken by someone that probably doesn’t actually watch the games. Let me tell you what that number doesn’t convey…when guys like Hatcher and Baez ( just to name a couple) come into a game with runners on base and then give up a 2 run double (which happens quite frequently…you’d know that if you actually watched), those 2 runs don’t count against the bullpens ERA. But, it does tell you that the bullpen sucks. Stats are important but they don’t always tell you the complete story.
Kayrall
The farm system built by Friedman is the envy of the league. He inherited a pretty awful situation with a lot of big contracts. As was with TB, his bread and butter was depth and replenishment through the pipeline, which, takes years to see results.
yonkers22
This is true but let’s not forget that he’s not in Tampa anymore. He has to figure out how to multi-task and get the big league club winning while also building up the farm. That’s his job now. With the endless supply of $$$ the Dodgers have, there’s no reason to be losing and hiding behind these prospects as justification. If I was Kershaw, I’d be asking some tough questions
BlueSkyLA
Exactly. We can kiss Kershaw goodbye anyway, if Friedman is still calling the shots next year.
bluemamba81
Give Roberts manager of the year cuz throughout all these injuries and slumping hitter they still got the first wildcard
BlueSkyLA
I really feel for Roberts, a rookie manager saddled with a lousy FO. The writing is on the wall. Half of his bullpen he can’t use in high leverage situations so he overuses the other half who are reliable. They will wear out as the season wears on. And who will be blamed when that happens? Anyone who is paying attention will know the deadweight in the bullpen isn’t Roberts’ fault, but he is going to wear it just the same, because Friedman never accepts any responsibility.
yonkers22
Finally, someone that feels my pain with this team and doesn’t throw out the “lowest bullpen era” b.s. stat to try to sound smart. Anyone who watches this team knows that by August the arms of Blanton, Liberatore, and Jansen will be falling off because they’re the only guys that consistently get outs. When you’re only other options are scrubs like Hatcher and Baez, what do you expect? Hey, at least we got “depth”!
BlueSkyLA
Coleman isn’t much better, again not much surprise there, as a castoff from KC. Howell might be a case for getting better, but Roberts still can’t afford to use him in tight situations. So basically that’s half the bullpen.
Yup, you’re going to take it in the face from the stat geek fans of the Whiz Kids. I’ve been taking for months, but that isn’t going to stop me from pointing out when the emperor lacks clothes.

Padres are lucky to get Skip Schumaker in their organization–loved him with the Cardinals.
