Shouldn’t mets be trying to get hitters instead of more pitching?
Zclee
Your right
Zclee
They should be going for Lucroy
doctorstrangeglove
Other than not having good enough prospects to get Lucroy, of course he would make sense for New York.
The problem is the return; unless it’s Matz coming back, Milwaukee can pretty easily get any offer from the Mets beaten by anyone else who had been looking at Lucroy. And no, Milwaukee is NOT giving him away.
staypuft
Well, they have no pitching depth with all these injuries and what not. And Matz keeps getting rocked- maybe he can’t pitch with that bone spur.
And with Colon is coming back to earth and Verrett and Gilmartin not duplicating last years… ok-ness, for lack of a better term, mets need depth
jmdjr1966
They have needs but are landlocked in the outfield and in the infield. If they could do something it should be a blockbuster at this point. Blackmon, Frazier, Melvin Upton are the ones who would help the team the most.
TenaciousD
Angels get: m.conforto
Mets get: j. Smith y. Escobar h.santiago 5 mil
Any thoughts?
krillin
First, love the username. Second, I am no pro, but I just don’t see the Angels benefitting from that deal at all.
TenaciousD
Thanks
halos101
I disagree I woul think that the Angels would be the winners in that deal. 2 free agents next year (unless they use escobars option) and a starter who’s a free agent after 2017 for a young outfielder with high potential.
ThePriceWasRight
not sure why the nets would trade a future everyday of for a few free agents to be and santiago. the mets aren’t in have to win now mode as their nucleus is quite young.
dodgers4life357
Mets have to give a prospect or a pitcher to get that deal
MrMet33
Everyone is insane. Mets trade a young controllable middle of the order bat for a 4th starter, overpriced defensively challenged utility guy and a middle reliever. Sure – add more prospects from the Mets!
halos101
I agree with everything you said except the fact that Escobar is overplayed. 7 mill option for next year is team friendly with his bat. horrible on d but he’s not overpaid or a utility guy, he’s a pretty good hitter
jmdjr1966
The Mets need is to keep Conforto for the future (next year or the year after as a starter in left or right field.. The Mets need a centerfielder at this point in time..
Sometimes the best deals are the ones not made. Prime example – not getting Carlos Gomez last year. So no stupid deals should be made this year. If the Mets could do a deal it would be for Charlie Blackmon. Otherwise suffer with the current outfield configuration.
The Mets need to get a seventh inning guy to shorten games. This would rest the pitchers. I would also try to lengthen the rotation to six starters when and if Wheeler returns. I would get Joe Smith or Tyler Cilppard again or even better, David Robertson. All can be had for low level prospects at this point.. If the Mets really want to do the right thing, It would be to Todd Frazier and Robertson from the White Sox for Nimmo and one other star prospect such as Herrera, Rosario or D. Brown and maybe a low level prospect.
angelsinthetroutfield
I like it but not sure the Angels can afford to give up SP when they are so thin there depth wise.
Gogerty
Man I hope Prado makes his way back to Atlanta. Loved him on the team.
krillin
Agreed
brandons-3
Agreed. The Justin Upton blockbuster was slightly negated by the inclusion of Prado. Had we found a way to keep him (maybe we could’ve included Mr. Untouchable J.R. Graham LOL) while still adding Justin, dare I say, probably would’ve won a few more games and secured the ‘one seed’ in the NL and who knows what would’ve happened in the NLDS against Pittsburgh instead of Los Angeles.
Gogerty
Yeah the whole Uggla-Upton brothers era under Wren was just ugly.
ThePriceWasRight
mets can have drew storen from Jays for a prospect in the teams 25-30 range. with grilli and possibly Sanchez eventually moving back to.pen, no.meed for.storen
Mike M 2
I can’t imagine them moving Sanchez to the pen as long as they are in the race. Maybe a minimum DL stint to skip a couple starts.
TomG
Storen was very useful to the Mets last season.
olereb
Gogerty, I agree 100, I loved Prado. He offers a lot of intangibles, leadership qualities, Hoping Marlins don’t resign and we get him
tigermr1
Marlins prob will. He’s basically the captain of the team
Gogerty
Thanks olereb, guess it was about time I said something that didn’t get ridiculed, haha. Would be shocked if Marlins didn’t, but Miami is always interesting to watch with contracts.
elscorchot
Marlins have to re sign prado. He’s a proven leader in the clubhouse. He’s a big reason the young players are playing as professionally as they are.
mymets 2
what the mets need to concentrate on is bringing nimmo back to platoon w lagares in cf the rest of the way and get conforto to learn some first base. putting him in cf is gonna b a huge mistake and will cost us games in long run. he does need to play and first base makes most sense. who knws when duda is coming back. loney has filled in nicely. but w cespedes playing left conforto has to go somewhere besides center
metseventually 2
Having Granderson is unfortunately killing them. They OF could be set with Cespedes-Conforto-Lagares and Nimmo but Granderson has been holding them hostage. Needs to be moved this off season.

Dickey? Okay, this may not be starting my comments here with a bang, since it’s going for a starting pitcher towards end of career. But, IF the Mets hit a point where they still have a strong shot at post-season, BUT the potential Noah shut-down and chinks in the present starting pitching armor somehow trumps the awful situational hitting as the main obstacle: Why not…… R.A. Dickey? Maybe a last hurrah? I looked at the Blue Jay 2nd basemen and not much there so far. Walker is a free agent? I mean Dickey back with Mets, out of the AL could put together one of those stretches, no? And we have Reyes/Flores/Johnson for 2nd/3rd mix? Do Blue Jays feel he’s essential in the playoff drive? We have a pitcher in return?
