About time
Phillies2017
If he’s claimed will he just have to be on the roster for the remainder of the season or all of next year too, as its under 90 days left.

Well he will be offered back to his original organization and if they don’t want him, the other 28 clubs can claim him. If he goes unclaimed, then he is just another minor leaguer sent to Lehigh Valley. Typically when it comes to Rule 5, the original organization will take him back and trade him back to the Phillies cause then he can be sent down and the other team has something to gain from it.

First, the 28 other clubs can claim him. The same Rule 5 rules apply. They need to keep him on the roster the rest of the year. If no one claims him he’ll be offered back to the Royals. If the Royals don’t want him, he becomes a free agent.

If he is clamed on waivers and lasts the full year on the roster, he should clear the 90 day hurtle and be free and clear of Rule 5 restrictions for 2016. Ethanhickey I believe he goes on waivers first giving other teams the chance to claim him (with Rule 5 restrictions in place) before he would be offered back to his original club.
