This doesn’t sound like a definite “he’s not being moved.” More along the lines of executives saving face when talking to Miller. Cashman s clearly interested in a bit of a rebuild (or retool if you don’t like that word) but it seems that the higher ups aren’t in on that plan as of yet. Would still be shocked if Miller, Chapman, and Betances were all still Yankees come Aug. 1 if the club is playing the same type of ball they’ve put forth to this point. Speaking of Chapman specifically, to me it would be incredibly moronic to not move him ( again, assuming they’re 1-2 games under .500 or worse at the deadline) considering they could just resign him in the off season, while gaining an asset or two for 2 months of his services. Lots to ponder here and the jury is certainly still out. But the writing is beginning to show on the wall for this team, who’s most consistent player is a 39 year old right fielder who Girardi said “can’t play defense.”

He’s not going anywhere…

How can you be so sure?

He’s not… I’ll be around, we’ll talk after the trade dateline passes and he’s still a Yankee.

Theres obviously a significant chance that happens based on the rhetoric portrayed to the media by NYY. A great insight into the ramifications of not trading Miller is provided by NYC Fan everybody.

Given their July schedule, the Yankees should be at or below .500 by 8/1 with a bunch of better teams ahead of them in the WC race. Assuming that’s the case, trading Chapman, Gardner and Beltran at the least would bring them much needed prospects. Cashman knows this even if ownership and Yankee fans don’t want to accept reality.
