What the hell happened to Andrew Susac? As Posey’s backup with limited playing time he was always a decent hitting catcher, especially in 2014. Last time I looked he had great defensive metrics around being able to steal strikes for pitchers (like I think he was in the top 10).
I don’t know if I just overrated him or if something happened to him?

A wrist and thumb injury last year had him on the 60 day DL. Hard to hit a baseball with either one of those hurt, let alone both.

Susac was involved in the will smith trade he’s currently with the Brewers right now

Absolutely hampered by injuries and was already old for a rookie. Giants got all the value they could get out of him in the Will Smith trade.

Stephenson probably does fit this mold but maybe for different reasoning.
Formerly thought of as a can’t miss prospect, his wheels have either stalled or been perceived to have stalled a bit in AAA, and despite having a couple good looking outings in the majors, still seems to be waiting for his chance.
September is an opportunity to show he is still as good as advertised and ready for the big time
