Why would the Mets move Conforto to 1B when he has been of the better defensive corner OF in baseball since his debut?
Not to mention that Granderson is a free agent after next season so he can just slide into that spot.
pllid203
Better defensive corners in baseball? Where do you guys come up with this stuff? WOW.
stl_cards16 2
Well, he’s not losing playing time because of his glove. How good he is defensively can be debated, but he’s definitely not a bad outfielder. There’s no reason to move him to 1B, where his bat would play even worse.
pllid203
Hes not a very good outfielder he has made some major flubs and has never been known for his defense.
metseventually 2
He’s also made some fantastic plays and throws too.
A'sfaninUK
Quality defense is not about singular plays. Conforto’s not good and probably a 1B in the long term.
metseventually 2
But it’s also not about “major flubs” either.
Jake Tillinghast
LMAO good defensive outfielder ? Try again
sampsonite168
Mets should definitely give Walker a qualifying offer. It’s the best case scenario for both the player and the team.
pllid203
Ill pass we can do better then Walker hes been over hyped. He completely disappeared for almost 2 months. No thanks.
prdrnyc
I agree he did disappear at times but ya never know how much the back thing was affecting him. Plus he hit 20 homeruns and thats with a bad back and I have nothing but good things to say about his glove. If he leaves then he leaves I won’t shed a tear but if he’s willing to take a bit less than the market is dictating than I would consider signing him.
pllid203
He’ll costs us close to 20M for one year. No way he gets everything hit to him but he has no range and ditched the season. No thanks. Bye.
prdrnyc
Aw come on man no way he’s gonna get 20 mil per after coming off back surgery. I didn’t notice the lack of range he made almost every play in front of him. I trust him over at second than i do flores. But Rivera may take that job from both of them plus Rivera has Sandy’s two favorite things high OPS and low cost.
sampsonite168
$15M is not “almost $20M”
Blue_Painted_Dreams_LA
QO will actually be around 16.8 but point taken. There’s no bad 1 year contract. Ditched the season really?
prdrnyc
I don’t believe he ditched the season. He left trying to better himself for the future of his career I can’t knock a guy for that.
cleonjones
And the fact that Dominic Smith will be in Las Vegas next year and should be ready by mid 2017 or the beginning of the 2018 season. He has only one position which is first base.
A'sfaninUK
Smith might be ready by 2018 if he progresses like the team would hope, but thats not a given.
metseventually 2
Why move Conforto to first with Don Smith coming up?
notagain27
If the Mets are dumb enough to offer Walker a QO then they deserve what they get. Walker and his agent would jump on that in a second. Easy money to either build his worth back up for the following year or get paid $16 million to rehab again.
A'sfaninUK
So the Mets won’t play OR trade Conforto, and missed a great opportunity to add arguably the best C in the game not named Posey to a playoff team, thats some #smrt GMing, smh.
ib6ub9
Thank you Mets that’s two non-trades you made better for the Brewers
hojostache
The Brewers GM can toast the Mets every day in Oct….because it isn’t like his team is going to play a meaningful game in the month….
I’m thankful the Mets didn’t make those trades either.
davbee
Enjoy Oct 2015 and 2016. Because by Oct. 2018 the Mets are going to be awash in bad arms, bloated contracts and aging vets and the Brewers will be in the playoffs.
prdrnyc
You obviously know nothing about the mets current active players contracts. But you keep on cheering those “playoff bound” brewers.
metseventually 2
Lol, please keep dreaming.
ib6ub9
so the Mets get to play one more game. whoopty Doo!!!
ib6ub9
If they make it to the wildcard game im thinking there going to choke it away.

So a few things that can be found out with just a little research.
First off, Conforto isn’t a horrible outfielder. He had +9 DRS last year in 50 games in LF. Above average, like his batting. And just like his bat this year, his glove has declined, but still average by all measures- including his brief stints in CF. Still only 23, he’ll have his opportunities to prove himself if he’s worthy. This year has been lost and with a crowded OF, he may not even make the postseason roster. Jay Bruce has been shit but there’s too much invested to not give him a season long look. That’s the politics of baseball.
With Walker, the Mets would be dumb not to offer a QO. He’s still up there in the top WAR for upcoming free agents and easily the 2nd best bat behind Ces for the Mets this year. (Scary to think what their lineup will be without them both next year.) Walker is also only the only starting caliber FA at 2nd and at 31 can easily get 3-4 years depending on the demand and how FO’s view his injuries.
At first, Duda isn’t going anywhere. Minus his short season this year, he’s been above average with the bat and glove since taking over the starting role. Hell, this season he was still better than Loney has been. (No way Loney is coming back on anything but a minor league deal.) With that being said, the Mets don’t have much in the way of 1B that can do better than Duda. Wright may move over eventually but you never know if or when he’ll be on the field. Flores can play, but he’s better off as a platoon with Duda- A good one at that. And in the minors, Dom is still a full season of AAA from cracking the roster. Earliest is next Sept barring something drastic.
