don’t forget the first pick in next years draft. more good draft picks. just keep losing 100+ games a year that’s how the Cubs did it.
connorreed
The Cubs haven’t had a first overall pick in 30+ years.
From 2009 to 2016, the Twins have had 13 first round picks to Chicago’s nine. In those eight drafts, the Twins drafted higher than the Cubs in six. The past six draft spots? Cubs: 104, 9, 4, 2, 6, 9. Twins: 15, 6, 5, 4, 2, 30.
Were the Twins not in a nearly identical draft position as the Cubs?
So why is one 94-53 and the other is 55-93?

Please ignore the dig from the previous poster. We have had a terrible season-embarrassingly terrible. Us fans are in lash-out mode here now because it is going to be three years+ before the Twins are close to a .500 club and it hurts…

The reason the Twins suck is because of their front office. Player development, scouting, trading, signing, everything.
How many failed Top 100 Prospects can a team have? Oswaldo Arcia, Aaron Hicks, Joe Benson, Alex Meyer, Deolis Guerra? Kyle Gibson has been an inconsisten back of the rotation starter. Buxton has done nothing except for a few hot streaks. Miguel Sano has struggled big time this year. Still early for Berrios, but he did not look good in his appearances.
And they are really bad drafters. Levi Michael, Travis Harrison, Hudson Boyd, Alex Wimmers, Matt Bashore, Carlos Gutierrez, Shooter Hunt. Those are seven of their nine first round picks from 2008-2011. Since 2005, they’ve drafted SEVENTY players in rounds two-seven. Those seventy players have managed a combined career WAR of 0.8 to date.
They haven’t made a good trade in nearly a decade. They’ve traded away plenty of good players – Kendrys Morales, Denard Span, Francisco Liriano, Danny Valencia, JJ Hardy, Justin Morneau, Carlos Gomez, Matt Garza, RA Dickey, Johan Santana – and they have nothing to show for it.

I think the brightest spot is their apparent recognition that the franchise needs a major overhaul, and apparent determination to hire their next top baseball guy from outside the organization. We’ll see how it plays out, but they seem to have admitted they have a problem.
Stonehands
This is a great sign. They have finally seemed to have overcome that achilles’ heel of extreme loyalty for their guys. The same thing is happening with the white sox. Overhaul the front office and strip the MLB team of all usable assets for near MLB pieces and they will be competitive by 2018 or 2019.

Centerfielder Nick Granite had a great year at AA Chattanooga.
Lightning
Make that Zach Granite.

How about Nick Gordon, Kohl Stewart & Nick Burdi they got more talent ahead..”
disgruntledreader 2
Kohl Stewart may have talent, but he’s not actually a particularly good pitcher. His walk rate has gone from almost sustainable to untenable and his K rate has gone from mediocre to atrocious as he’s moved up, and he’s not showing either the fastball or complementary pieces to offer much hope of a turn-around.
The fact that Burdi hasn’t recovered enough to go out to the AFL can’t exactly be taken as a point of excitement either.
But hey, Gordon’s one of the 8-10 most interesting shortstops in Single-A, so they’ve got that going for them.

Can stewart be more like a reliable bullpen guy’? and how about Tyler Jay that guy has plus stuff also i wanna see how Gonsalves numbers translate into MLB next year

How can a player not play a key defensive position (SS) all year in the minors then come up to the major leagues and play there everyday? That fact alone speaks volumes as to why the Twins need to blow up their entire operation. Having a player do that would be like the Army training a guy to drive a tank and then send him into combat as a helicopter pilot.

Nunez over Dozier for the all star game is hilarious. I know Doziers done way more damage in the second half, but Nunez’s first half was more of a fluke than anything
takeyourbase
Dozier sucked until late July.
AidanVega123
Fluke or no fluke, Nunez played better, bud.
