Phillies can be .500 next year, and go for a wild card spot with adding a bat ? BwaaHaaaHaaa. With what pitching staff ? Every starter on this staff is nothing better then a 3rd or 4th starter on a good team. INCLUDING Velasquez. He has talent yes but until it’s used nightly, he’s nothing but a 4th or 5th starter. The best starter on the phillies has been Eickoff, and he’s no better then a 3rd starter for anyone else. Truth of the matter is, they need to add a bat or 2 and a good starting pitcher who can give 200 innings to have a chance at .500

Go to mlb.com and you’ll notice that Hellickson ranks #17 and Eickhoff ranks #28 in WHIP amongst all big league starters. There is a straw man argument that professes what a 3/4 starter looks like which works until you get down to specific cases. The GM who sells an Eickhoff as a 3/4 starter is a fool.

Thank you for answering my CarGo question Jeff and for the very thoughtful insight. It was good to read such intelligent reasoning behind your statements and pointed out you different some things I hadn’t thought of. I really love this site, it truly is the best baseball site out there, I just moved cities and don’t know a lot of people I can talk baseball with here so your site and even the fan commentary really is a wonderful resource! I just wish you’d post more about The Giants! 😉
You really wanna hope you never sit next to me on a plane because I’ll bother the heck out of you with questions… better pretend to be sleeping FAST!
