Severino has been called up to be a reliever down the stretch. if it’s between the two of them to take Green’s spot it will be Mitchell.
A-Rod the GOAT
Mitchell should’ve won the starting job in spring training before getting hurt, so it should be fun to see if he can be an effective starter at the major league level
A-Rod the GOAT
Between Severino, Mitchell, Kaprielian, Cessa, and Green, you would think at least one or two can become quality starters, to complement all the top hitting prospects the Yanks currently have

Sheffield looks to be the best of the bunch right now!

Severino should be the next man up, Mitchell hasn’t pitched all year and is just coming back. Yanks do have a lot of quality young arms coming up.
Ken M.
Sounds like, despite the notes about it not being worst case, he is gonna need Tommy John. Most ucl sprains require it and it’s the reason he is getting a 2nd opinion.
Terrible news.
Him, Cessa and Mitchell are going to be 3 aces in that rotation.

“Aces” haha get real, dude.

“…is going to some…”? Your English is on par with your scouting. Hitters yes, pitching meh.
BoldyMinnesota
None of them are going to be aces, and if one does turn out to be one, New York got extremely lucky

Can we talk about Severino for a second? When I first heard about him early last year, the talk was about his fastball and advanced CHANGEUP. He was said to have only a developing slider. Then he comes up late last year and does well; but his second pitch is a slider and the change was his third pitch. Now, after his terrible ’16 start and demotion, he’s back up as a reliever and he isn’t even throwing the change. What happened to his change?

Essentially, the big leagues starting figuring Severino out. Though he is isn’t walking people, he is not locating his pitches (command). So though his fastball is still buzzing, he isn’t getting any arc on his pitches which is even worse with the slider and change. Severino, himself admitted he has shied away from the change this year, losing confidence in it. If you look at his contact rates, the big leagues have been teeing up due to the lack of command, which is most likely why he has lost some confidence. A few scouts state he tends to overthrow the change which flattens out the pitch making it more hittable. Severino a couple weeks ago admitted his gets too hyped up and rolls his shoulder more than he should. My gut feeling is you have a 22 yr old going through growing pains of learning how to pitch now the big boys have figured him out. Everybody says he is not injured and his velocity is right on target. Personally, I wonder if the injury at the end of last season and then early this season has maybe played a psychological card in his head concerning his confidence. Either way, when it comes down to it, it’s all about command and trusting his stuff, i.e. Learning how to be a pitcher and not a thrower. Once he figures that out, then he is the golden ace we expect.

Hope you are right about him blossoming into a “golden ace.”
