Darn, John Lamb can’t catch a break. Can’t stay healthy.
His velocity, low ever since his Tommy John surgery years ago, had decreased further in 2016, I hoped it was because of his late start, and something he could recover with a healthy offseason of preparation, but it looks like he won’t have that.
He had an interesting 2015 season with a huge strikeout rate – his ~91mph fastball got hit pretty hard, but his other three pitches – including his crazy ~65mph curve – got lots of swings and misses. With four pitches of totally different velocities (91, 86, 77, 65) he’s fun to watch, with a pretty good understanding of how to pitch. But it’s hard to pitch when an already-soft-tosser’s velocity diminishes further, and when that guy can’t stay healthy.
He’s a lefty, but doesn’t have one put-out pitch like you’d expect from a lefty specialist – he relies on confusion and deception – he needs to start or fill a long relief role to have MLB value.

This guy has awesome stuff. Hope he gets it together. The Reds need all of the help that they can get!
