Perhaps the most intriguing KBO possibility to watch will be Eric Thames.

I agree @disgruntledreader – I recall a highlight reel of an American player in the KBO (can’t find it) and I think it might have been Eric Thames. At the time he was tearing up the KBO. Do you or anyone know why he hasn’t had another look at another MLB job? Heck I’d think he’d be at least worth a Spring Training invite because from what I saw he was really good. I know it’s a hitter friendly league, but man… he was kicking serious butt! maybe scouts aren’t that impressed? Well I guess clearly they’re not.

He was under contract through this year. He is now going to be an unrestricted free agent. Whether someone here will guarantee him enough money to come back and take a shot at it, who knows. But with all the hemming and hawing about what the Blue Jays should do this winter, putting a 3 year/ $18M deal on the table for him to be a “1B”/DH for them seems like a no-brainer.

Thanks for the dialog and information… I think it would be really great to see how he performs in MLB. Given his success in KBO he could always go back if released. He has played OF too, I wouldn’t complain if my team (SF) gave him a shot, even if only for depth.

I didn’t see much of Vogelbach playing 1st base so not sure how good he is defensively but I found it interesting the comments Dave Simms made about him. He was talking about him getting around on inside pitches and him having short arms. Short arms might be good for a hitter but not so good for a 1st bm. I am not sure he might be fine but I have also heard talk about him being platooned at 1st which is not ideal. It is also not ideal if they have to platoon him at DH. I know he is supposed to be this great hitter but we saw very little of him when he was here and only 1 hit. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into another lopsided trade and the Mariners are on the wrong side of it again. The last two GMs have been on the wrong side of trades way too many times. Dipoto needs to fill in the holes and not hurt the l team long term.

I watched Vogelbach play 1B a couple of games and it’s not something I look forward to doing ever again. The kid can’t come off the bag and makes scoops. The M’s lost a game not because of an error that he made but he missed an easy scoop on a wide throw from the SS that let runners advance and score instead of there being 3 outs. Nope, huh uh, nada… the kid is DH material only. I’m a little tired of having DH only types on the roster, too.

The links regarding pitch framing have Salvador Perez as dead last in pitch framing? That surprises me.

“Shohei Otani, who posted a 2.12 ERA in 20 starts on the mound and also a 1.004 OPS in 382 plate appearances as an outfielder this past season”
Otani plays mostly as the DH during his off days, he hasn’t played in the outfield at all in the regular season.

KBO Samsung Lions outfielder Choi Hyoung-woo will also be an Int Fa, and has also expressed interest to play in the big leagues. (fan-interference.com/2016/08/21/south-korean-slugg…)
