Astros likely to resign Castro,
Doc Halladay
Just curious but what exactly is wrong with Jon Singleton? I remember him being hyped up and he struggled a fair bit in the MLB and just seems to have fallen off the radar. Is it a mechanical thing or is he just unable to hit breaking pitches? I’m only asking because it would seem he’d be an extremely buy low candidate despite the $5 million he’s owed the next 2 seasons($4 million in salary plus $1 million for the 3 buyouts on his options). Hell, the Jays guaranteed Justin Smoak $8.75 million($8.5 salary plus $0.25 buyout on an option) and Smoak only has power and defense on his side and would be lucky to hit a little league curveball.

Highly unlikely the Astros would have any comfort with Gattis as a DH, given his putrid performance in that role (2016: 219/298/410; career: 238/289/440). He’s hardly performed better offensively when spotted in LF over the years, either (career: 249/283/474).
As long as the team is OK with having him behind the plate and being heavily protected against righty starters (against whom he turns into late-career Dave Kingman: 207/272/425 when an RH started in 2016, 241/296/460 career), though, carrying Evan at $5M shouldn’t be too onerous.

Any numbers yet on how much it will take to get Lourdes gurriell? How much of a discount would he give astros just so he can bexeith his brother? What’s thoughts on his timeline to be big league ready?

Astros are a win now team that needs another starting pitcher, a catcher, and a leftfielder. A move to get Verlander, McCann, or Gardner would seem to make sense. All are established players and would be solid additions. Teams like the Tigers and Yanks would be looking for prospects, Sale would be another option that might put them in contention. again. Sale and Verlander would cost the most prospects. Since the Yanks are looking to trade Gardner he seems to make the most sense.

Verlander has a full no trade clause, and the Astros are no closer than the Tigers to winning, so there is no motivation there for him to waive it.

I thought there GM said everyone was available, and he is one of their biggest contracts.

I hope the Astros stay away from trading for an Ace. I’d like to see them add a lefty outfielder and a loogy.
I would also like to see the Astros extend Altuve, Springer, Correa, and Bregman. Lock them up for the next decade. It would cost $500 million, and Crane should support it.

yeah who needs an ace? they’re overrated

Sipp great signing ? How can crane open his purse if everytime he does the gm signs the wrong guys?

Castro is gone, there’s no way they pay FA market value for a liability at the plate.
Sign a defensive backup catcher to spell Gattis 1-2 times a week, sign or trade for an playoff experienced run producer for RF (with Springer moving to CF) or at 1B (with Gurriel platooning with Aoki in LF and DH) then send multiple (non-Bregman) prospects to upgrade the starting staff and add a LH reliever in FA.
