Makes me wonder what LAD would do to fill the 2B hole if they weren’t aiming so high. Granted biased as a Braves fan, but think the return would not have to be as high on a younger Jace Peterson. No doesn’t have the same pop, but 3 years younger and ABs are building. Plus younger than the mentioned Utley.
stubby66
Cmon Dodgers think you and the Brewers should do a trade of Puig for Scooter and Santana or Phillips.
alexgordonbeckham
Braun and Scooter. Open those talks back up.
baseballdeez
Brewers would trade Santana or Phillips + Scooter for Puig in a heartbeat. Braun + Scooter for Puig + prospects is what should be revisited
kla1214
Keep Braun and go sign Trumbo. Don’t need a head case like Puig. And on that point Trade Scooter too.
davidcoonce74
Scooter Gennet doesn’t hep the Dodgers’ weakness against lefties. He might be the very worst hitter versus lefties in all of baseball.
Rickey O'Sunnyvale
If they weren’t aiming as high, they could settle on one of their own internal options: Kike, Barnes, etc. But they are specifically looking for big right-handed pop, so I doubt they would go any lesser than someone like Dozier, Kinsler or Forsythe unless they also added pop elsewhere, like Braun…
mcdusty31
Not sure that Forsythe would bring the kind of pop we would like to have
Blue_Painted_Dreams_LA
He has more than enough pop.
dodgrbluu
Dodgers don’t want another LH player. If they end talks with the Twins for Dozier, there is a number of other RH 2b options open. Doubt the Dodgers try and do a trade for Jace Peterson. I think the Dodgers resign Utley before making a deal with the Braves for another LH 2b.
davidcoonce74
Utley bats left handed.
yoyo137
I think that was his point, that if the Dodgers aren’t getting a RH 2b with power in a trade, they’re better off signing Utley outright than dealing prospects for a LH in a trade
robobob909
Dodgers just signed right handed Cuban second baseman Jose Miguel Fernandez to a minor league contract. Over eight seasons in Cuba’s Serie Nacional, Fernandez batted .319/.403/.423 with 105 doubles, six triples, 37 home runs and 318 RBI.
vtadave
He hits left-handed.
davidcoonce74
Fernandez is a left-handed hitter who hasn’t played competitively in two years. And he’s been playing mostly third base anyway – BA doesn’t think his defense at second is that good. There wasn’t much of a demand for him this offseason; I doubt he’s much more than a depth piece.

I’ve long been an advocate of hanging on to younger players. It’s easy to dream of what they can become, but the reality is that rarely happens.
At some point we need to make a move and push some chips into the center of the table. The Cubs showed us last year that sometimes you have to do something that hurts to take a shot. I’m sure Chapman felt like an overpay at the time, and maybe Torres will make it look even worse in the future, but as they say, flags fly forever.
Is it really worth hanging on to Buehler or Alvarez to forego getting Dozier? Kersh is 28 with a potential back injury lingering and only 2 years of control left. JT isn’t young. Hill isn’t a spring chicken to say the least. I’m all for building a super team of prospects, but to get a title, aren’t we better off giving it a shot with our current core? If Buehler develops in 2 years and Alvarez is ready as well, but now JT is 34, Hill is 38. So what we gain in production from the kids we lose in declining performance from our core in all likelihood.
I’d rather take a 2 year shot now, and just pray Alvarez or Buehler don’t bite us later.
Blue_Painted_Dreams_LA
The example you cited occurred at the deadline.
Wolf Hoffmann
No.
mcdusty31
It’s a fine line…obviously Chapman was a fine addition that put them over the hump…does Dozier do that right now? Quite possibly…but even if we hang on to those young guys for now it’s more than likely they can still be sent somewhere at the deadline…I want Dozier don’t get me wrong, and I think he ultimately ends up on the Dodgers but I’m ok with them being cautious of what and how much we give up because we may end up needing some help on the big league pitching staff this year or like I said we may be able to deploy these guys at the deadline for a more clear need
chesteraarthur
Like last year when the dodgers acquired rich hill and Reddick?
dodgerblue88
Trading Montas, Holmes and Cotton was similar to our usual MO of tinkering around the edges. Holmes and Cotton may turn into something, but realistically they were buried on our depth chart for several years ahead and so were easily expendable.
Getting Hill and Reddick wasn’t a chips to the center moment. It’s was buying low on Hill since he was on the DL at the time, and getting a platoon partner for our enigmatic RF, when the last thing in the world we needed was another LH hitting outfielder. When we need to put a second baseman in the outfield because he happens to hit RH, that should say something.
The only reason we have the luxury of waiting out the Twins on Dozier is simply because they don’t have to move him, and there aren’t any other strong fits. Waiting them out me lead to us getting a better deal, or it may lead to an injury or underperformance on another team turning it into a stiff competition for his services.
Realistically where do DeLeon, Alvarez or Buehler fit on this staff until 2019?
1. Kershaw
2. Hill
3. Maeda
4. Urias
5. Insert any of the 5 other candidates on our roster already
Is DeLeon and Buehlers future worth the risk of wasting the few solid seasons we have left from CK, JT, AGone, and Hill? To make 15-20 starts in the 5-spot of the rotation? Or do we push like hell for the next two years?Just food for thought.
mcdusty31
Yes sir
mcdusty31
So glad to have these guys back in the fold!
Mark 20
I think two obvious needs can be filled with this proposition. And its a fair one, not the crazy trades I see proposed.
To the blue jays: Yasiel Puig + Andre Ethier + Alex Wood+ 15m
To the dodgers: Devon Travis + Dalton Pompey + Darrell Cecillani
Toronto fills its two OF spots, and its LHRP spot and gets a little cash to offset Ethiers salary. Dodgers get a stud second basemen, albeit with health concerns, a nice young OF prospect in Pompey and a bit of Outfield depth in Cecillani.
clintwolfrom
Are the padres really moving to LA? Sad, hate to see that happen
BlueSkyLA
Uh, that would be the Chargers.
clintwolfrom
oh, that’s still lame
wilymo
justin turner gets haircuts?
wilymo
haha, reading the story, apparently not – the guy was cutting kenley’s hair and turner was just there
BlueSkyLA
Yeah but I bet his hair was really scared.
mcdusty31
Maybe he was getting a hair cut…new contract, new man…we know he can definitely afford a shave and haircut these days
greenmonster08
Puig is like the once hot now doughy trophy wife – Dodgers just can’t let go in case “she” loses weight
chesteraarthur
But puig wont take half their stuff
Blue_Painted_Dreams_LA
And Puig probably gets rave reviews for putting out.
baseball216781
This will never happen if dodgers never traded dee gorden
Blue_Painted_Dreams_LA
Instead they would have been looking for a 2b mid season last year. And they’d still be looking for power against LHP because Gordon does not provide that. So in a sense yes they would have.
RealisticYankeeFan
How about a trade for Starlin Castro? A right handed controllable bat. Offers some decent pop and when he gets hot he really gets hot. Definitely cheaper than Dozier as well
dodgerblue88
Why is my earlier comment stuck “awaiting moderation”? Are there automatic triggers?
