The Arrieta extension poll was 51 no/49 yes. Hardly worth citing as “most saying it won’t happen”.
If I were 538 (and I’m so glad I’m not today) I’d call it a tossup.

Smart money says NO to the Cubs retaining Arrieta. He wants top 5 Ace money, which is north of $180MM.

And he’ll be age 32,33,34,35,36 in the years he wants 25m . I love Arrieta, but last 2 years he proved that he was that nasty, with the extreme cross fire. And last year he proved that it has to be perfect or he gets wild and an ace throws more than 5 innings. Which is all he was dominant for, for a good many of his starts. I think he should take a small discount to stay with his team and acknowledge his risk in not returning to his Cy Young form. The Cubs should pay him 22m this year as part of a 6 year 132million deal. 22 per year. Not 7 years. Plus he’ll make an extra 6-7m this year. And be guaranteed a huge long term deal. With injuries and having possibly peaked already, he shouldn’t turn that down. Boras client or not. In fact, that the most I would pay. 5 years 110-115 seems more accurate. But you have to pay to play!!

Zero chance of an extension. Or at least I’d be very surprised
