Andy Sisco Rumors

A's, Sisco Agree To Minor League Deal

According to the Denver Post's Troy Renck, the A's have agreed to terms with left-handed reliever Andrew Sisco on a minor league contract. The deal is worth $550K. Sisco, 26, last pitched in the majors in 2007. He has a 5.18 career ERA in over 147 major league innings. The A's had their sights set on Dennys Reyes, before he signed with the Cardinals, and Joe Beimel, who remains a free agent. Sisco was obviously the cheaper option in the end.   Continue Reading

Oakland Hot Stove: Garciaparra, Cabrera, Reyes

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Oakland Athletics and Nomar Garciaparra are "in serious talks" about a bench spot for the team. Slusser notes that the Phillies are likely competing for Nomar's services as well; I myself would also mention the Cubs as a team in need of a right-handed bench bat. Additionally, Slusser points out that signing Garciaparra would not preclude the Athletics from also going after Orlando Cabrera. However, it seems as though the two parties continue to have difficulty in bridging the salary gap, despite Cabrera's reducing his salary demands from $9MM to...   Continue Reading

Odds and Ends: Hudson, Twins, Sisco, Dunn

Links for Friday... Tim Hudson wants the Braves to pick up his 2010 option for $12MM, though he has the right to void it if they do. Indians GM Mark Shapiro has no regrets about signing Kerry Wood for $20.5MM in early December. Twins CEO Jim Pohlad says the team is not done, in talking to La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. He believes signing Joe Crede makes sense, but his baseball people have the final decision. Michael Fleming of Variety says Brad Pitt continues to "circle" the Moneyball movie, in which he could play Billy Beane....   Continue Reading

Odds and Ends: Sisco, Murton, Thigpen

Links for Thursday... Lot of people tossing around the number of unsigned free agents...I have it at about 80, at least if we draw the line at players that are remotely useful. Here's my list. Joe Pawlikowski of River Ave. Blues would like to see the Yankees sign Mark Grudzielanek. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle says the A's will attend Andy Sisco's Friday workout. Scott Miller of CBSSports.com takes a stab at the All-Free Agent team. The Rockies did not acquire Matt Murton as a precursor to another deal, Troy Renck learned. The Blue Jays designated catcher Curtis...   Continue Reading

Rosenthal On Abreu, Garland, Glavine, Sisco

The latest from Ken Rosenthal... The Mariners and Giants are interested in Bobby Abreu, if the price is right. Yesterday Buster Olney suggested that Abreu is willing to take a one-year deal. The A's and Nationals have other targets, while the Mets, White Sox, and Braves are seen as long shots. Rosenthal examines the nuances of Jon Garland's December 7th decision to reject arbitration, saying that it wasn't an obvious mistake at the time. Tom Glavine's agent Gregg Clifton did not attend yesterday's meeting with Frank Wren; it was a health update and not a contract negotiation. Rosenthal says Glavine...   Continue Reading

White Sox May Deal Young Hurlers

This winter, Kenny Williams may shop three hard-throwing, recently acquired White Sox pitchers. Nick Masset, David Aardsma, and Andy Sisco have disappointed the Sox in their first seasons in the organization, and none earned September call-ups. Aardsma and Masset are out of options, so the Sox will probably lose them if they fail to earn spots with the big club next spring. Once a player is out of options he must clear waivers before he can be sent to the minors. Masset will turn 26 next season. He came over from Texas in the Brandon McCarthy trade. The right has..   Continue Reading

White Sox Acquire Sisco For Gload

Baseball Digest Daily reports that the White Sox have acquired reliever Andy Sisco for first baseman/outfielder Ross Gload. Seems like a big win for the Sox. Sisco, a big lefty, turns 24 in January. Since jumping from A ball to the Majors in '05 as a Rule 5 pick from the Cubs, Sisco has been in over his head. The White Sox could fix him up as a lights out reliever like they did with Matt Thornton, or else switch him back to starting. How does Gload help the Royals? He'll turn 31 next season and the club has absolutely..   Continue Reading
