Cesar Izturis Rumors

Trade Candidates: Middle Infielders

The Mets, Reds, Cardinals, Twins, Cubs, Brewers and Giants could all potentially look for middle infield help. Here are some trade candidates, listed from largest 2009 salary to smallest: Miguel Tejada - His $13MM salary would be too much for some teams if the Astros made him available, but his 32 extra base hits and low strikeout numbers sure look good. Julio Lugo - He makes $9MM this year and the same amount next year, so the Red Sox would presumably take on salary in any deal. The 33-year-old is hitting .370 since the beginning of June. Cristian Guzman -...   Continue Reading

Rosenthal's Latest: Rangers, Rays, Mulder

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports has a new column up with plenty of rumors: The Rangers think they can trade Frank Catalanotto if they pick up a considerable portion of the $6MM he's owed or if they accept a similar sized contract in return. They just aren't sure it's worth making room for Andruw Jones, who's making progress with his swing. Ian Stewart's emergence means Jeff Baker's become expendable for the Rockies. Rosenthal doesn't expect the A's to sign a free agent starter even though Justin Duchscherer needs surgery and will likely miss six weeks. Instead Rosenthal suggests the A's...   Continue Reading

The deal is pending a physical.   Continue Reading

Astros Could Get In On Izturis

Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle says Cesar Izturis' agent Peter Greenberg spoke with Astros GM Ed Wade to gauge his interest in Cesar Izturis, Freddy Garcia, and Bobby Abreu. Wade confirmed that Abreu is not a fit for the Astros. Izturis could be, though, if they manage to trade Miguel Tejada. The Orioles are known to be making progress on a deal with Izturis.   Continue Reading

They'll meet with the agents for Koji Uehara and Kenshin Kawakami this week. Negotiations for...   Continue Reading

Orioles Targeting Izturis

According to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles have contacted shortstop Cesar Izturis' agent to express interest. Zrebiec believes the 28 year-old defensive whiz tops their list. Izturis earned $3.05MM this year. The Orioles have also had trade discussions for Khalil Greene and Bobby Crosby. The Padres requested Garrett Olson for Greene, and the Orioles passed. Zrebiec says the Orioles are not interested in Rafael Furcal, Orlando Cabrera, or Edgar Renteria. If they spend big on a free agent, it'll be A.J. Burnett or Mark Teixeira. However, Furcal's agent Paul Kinzer said yesterday that the O's are one...   Continue Reading

Orioles Rumors: Baez, Greene, Hernandez

Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun has a few Orioles notes today. Danys Baez, who hasn't pitched since 2006, would like to prepare as a starter for 2008. Andy MacPhail is open to the idea; the Orioles have more open spots in their rotation than their bullpen. Baez is set to earn $5.5MM in '09, the last year of his deal. Starting is where the money's at, unless you get a chance to close. The Orioles are interested in Khalil Greene, but prefer a long-term solution at shortstop. Nothing new on the extension front for Nick Markakis and Brian Roberts....   Continue Reading

Cardinals Rumors: Pujols, Payroll, Needs

Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has the latest Cardinals buzz... The Cards are going to stand pat with their starting rotation until they learn more about Chris Carpenter's injury. He'll be examined in late November. Strauss says a swing man type acquisition is possible as insurance. The Cardinals are likely to approach Albert Pujols about an extension before he enters his 2011 option year. Pujols will earn just $16MM in each of the '09, '10, and '11 seasons. Teams must be salivating at the prospect of Pujols on the free agent market, but the Cardinals will try to...   Continue Reading
