Pirates Sign Bootcheck, Bautista

According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The Pirates today agreed to terms with six players on minor league contracts and an invitation to spring training: relievers Chris Bootcheck, Denny Bautista and Juan Mateo; infielders Garrett Jones and Andy Phillips; and outfielder Jeff Salazar. Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette checks in from Vegas with the latest Pirates rumors. At some point during the Meetings, the Pirates and Tigers will meet to discuss Jack Wilson. It has been suggested that the Tigers are backing off on Wilson; they worked out Adam Everett last week. The Dodgers are also in the mix, with recent discussions involving the possible restructuring of Wilson's contract. Pirates Acquire Denny Bautista

According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates acquired 27 year-old reliever Denny Bautista from the Tigers today for 23 year-old minor league reliever Kyle Pearson. Bautista seems like a reasonable project for the Bucs to toss into the back of their bullpen. Denny Bautista To Tigers For Jose Capellan

Jon Paul Morosi has the scoop - the Tigers and Rockies are close to completing a swap of relievers. The Tigers would send Jose Capellan to the Rockies for Denny Bautista. Bautista, 25, was acquired by the Rockies from the Royals in the Jeremy Affeldt swap at the 2006 trading deadline. He'd been a starter for much of his career.
