Jered Weaver Rumors
By Mike Axisa [November 24, 2009 at 8:03am CST]
The Angels have gotten back into the Roy Halladay sweepstakes, according to Mike DiGiovanna of The LA Times. We know the Halos were hard after the former Cy Young Award winner at the trade deadline, but Giovanna says the talks broke down when the Halos refused to include Erick Aybar in the deal. They eventually moved on and acquired Scott Kazmir. With J.P. Ricciardi out of the picture, DiGiovanna notes that new GM Alex Anthopoulos may be willing to do a deal without Aybar. We've already heard that Anthopoulos may consider granting a team a window to negotiate a contract...

Mike DiGiovanna at the L.A. Times talked to Angels GM Tony Reagins, who said "There are various scenarios we're working on." DiGiovanna says they're still very much in the mix for Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, but summarizes a bit of news and lists intriguing potential targets should talks for the aces fail: The Blue Jays reportedly asked for Erick Aybar, Jered Weaver or Joe Saunders, Brandon Wood, and one of either Trevor Reckling or Peter Bourjos. The Angels might not have the top-flight pitching prospects the Indians desire in return for Lee. The second tier of their pursuits for...

Randy Youngman of the OC Register has a few new rumor tidbits for us. Let's discuss. The Angels won't include Jered Weaver in a Miguel Tejada trade. Youngman says the O's asked for the moon as a way of gauging Tejada's market value. Now they'll get serious. Both the Padres and Angels like David Eckstein as one-year possibilities, not that he's open to that. The Halos actually have a bench role in mind for him, according to Youngman. The Padres, by the way, spoke to Eckstein's agent today. Youngman says the Dodgers have interest in Brandon Inge and Pedro Feliz...

Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times writes his "State of the Angels" Winter Meetings intro, and some information is revealed regarding Miguel Tejada. As you know, Tejada is the Angels' fallback option if they can't get Miguel Cabrera. Well, it doesn't sound like the price is reasonable on Tejada either. The Orioles want both third baseman Brandon Wood and starter Jered Weaver for him. The Angels would be comfortable with one of Joe Saunders or Ervin Santana plus a lesser prospect. Given the lack of interest in Tejada and the multiple question marks, it's surprising to see such a huge..

The Los Angeles Times speculated yesterday that the Angels could be a frontrunner for Alex Rodriguez, obstensibly in the upcoming offseason. Bill Shaikin speculated that such an acquisition would make Orlando Cabrera the odd man out. On the heels of that story comes an intriguing trade rumor from Halos Heaven. Yes, it is a blog, but I have known the author for some time and can vouch for the authenticity of his sources. He says Bill Stoneman and Brian Cashman have a tentative plan in place where the Angels could trade Dustin Moseley, Jose Molina, and Jered Weaver for Alex..
