Josh Fields Rumors

Odds & Ends: Gordon, Uribe, D'backs, Igawa

Links for a busy Wednesday, as writers, agents, and GMs catch their flights out of O'Hare... Welcome to Twitter: ESPN's Buster Olney. ESPN's Keith Law assesses the Mark Teahen, J.J. Hardy, Jeremy Hermida, and Akinori Iwamura trades. The Royals are committed to Alex Gordon as their third baseman despite acquiring Josh Fields, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Fields instead could play left field in the event David DeJesus is traded. DeJesus' name popped up in our left field trade market post. Rosenthal and Morosi also note that the Giants are talking with Juan Uribe...   Continue Reading

Odds & Ends: Brewers, Pierre, Webb, Mariners

Here's a few links on a gorgeous Saturday, at least around these parts... Acquiring Carlos Gomez allows the Brewers to wave goodbye to Mike Cameron, and Tom Haudricourt of The Journal Sentinel says they'll use the savings on pitching. "We're going to have to take our resources that we gave to Mike and distribute them to fill other needs for our ballclub," said GM Doug Melvin. "We've said pitching is our focus. We still have other needs, like any club. And the salaries of our other players go up, too." The return of Manny Ramirez allows the Dodgers to resume...   Continue Reading

Royals Trade Mark Teahen To White Sox

3:42pm: Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star heard the Royals sent $1MM to the White Sox with Teahen. 12:35pm: White Sox GM Ken Williams told reporters Teahen will play third base, with Gordon Beckham moving to second. He told MLB.com's Scott Merkin that Scott Podsednik is unlikely to re-sign and the DH position might not be decided until the end of the offseason. 11:16am: The deal is official, according to a Royals press release. The Royals acquired Getz and Fields for Teahen and cash considerations. FRIDAY, 8:40am: Mum's still the word from all involved, according to Mark Gonzales of...   Continue Reading

Odds & Ends: Blue Jays, Wedge, Sweeney

Some more links for the morning... Multiple major league sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that many Blue Jays are fed up with manager Cito Gaston and don't want him to return. One source says it's "nearly a mutiny" in the clubhouse. Eric Wedge wants to manage again at some point, according to MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince. Marlins prospect Mike Stanton still projects as a middle-of-the-order 40 homer threat, according to Ben Badler of Baseball America. Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. gets high marks from his predecessors, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. Former Phillies GMs Ed Wade and Pat Gillick...   Continue Reading

Josh Fields Wants To Be Traded

It worked for Brian Anderson, maybe it will work for Josh Fields, too. After being demoted to Triple A, the third baseman told Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times that he wants to be traded. Fields says he had a good meeting with White Sox GM Ken Williams, but hopes he's dealt before the deadline nonetheless. The 26-year-old is hitting .220/.301/.354 this year and hasn't been able to find the power stroke that carried him to 23 homers in his 2007 rookie season.   Continue Reading

Orioles Explore Deals for Pie, Salazar

According to Jeff Zrebiec at the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles have a roster decision to make when Cesar Izturis returns from the disabled list, and thus have considered dealing Oscar Salazar and Felix Pie. Both players are out of options and are likely to get claimed if put on waivers, so a deal makes sense, Zrebiec says. Sources say that the Orioles have discussed Pie in a potential deal for Sox corner infielder Josh Fields, who has struggled this season, though it's not clear if the Sox would still agree to such a trade. Salazar reportedly has drawn interest from...   Continue Reading

Odds And Ends: Fields, Grilli, Boras, D'Backs

Some links for Thursday evening... Josh Fields told MLB.com's Scott Merkin that he had a "blunt and straightforward" meeting with Ken Williams about his place on the White Sox. Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports the White Sox drafted their GM's son, Tyler Williams, and Harold Baines Jr.. Jason Grilli was recently dealt to the Rangers and now he's working on a deal of his own. According to his Twitter, Grilli plans to exchange "cash or an item to be named later" for number 49. Gavin McCourt, the son of Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, was drafted by the Red...   Continue Reading

Odds And Ends: Hamilton, Vizquel, Draft

Why not rattle off a few more links to wrap up this Monday afternoon... As MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports, Josh Hamilton will miss 4-6 weeks to repair a partially torn abdominal muscle. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports believes the Rangers are for real. He says Jon Daniels is not looking to trade Omar Vizquel. ESPN.com's Keith Law believes Stephen Strasburg will sign this year. He could be in line for a September debut, perhaps as a reliever. Law's high on Tyler Matzek, a polished high schooler who should go early in the first round. As Baseball America's J.J. Cooper...   Continue Reading

Discussion: Josh Fields' Future

As recently reported by Mark Gonzales at the Chicago Tribune, with the recent slotting of top prospect Gordon Beckham at third, White Sox GM Kenny Williams admits that Josh Fields' future with the team is "undefined": "I see it here in Chicago and certainly, this isn't an indication we're giving up on Josh, but you guys understand we're all about winning here." Williams goes on to say there's a place for Fields "right now," though, as Gonzales notes, the surplus of Pale Hose infielders offers an opportunity to swing a deal and patch some holes. Fields has seen his share...   Continue Reading

Mariners Sign First-Round Pick

According to MLB.com's Jim Street, the Mariners have finally inked right-handed reliever Josh Fields. He was the team's first-round pick in the 2008 first year player draft. Jim Callis of Baseball America dug up the numbers over the weekend: Fields will receive $1.75 million, splitting the difference between MLB’s $1.5 million recommendation for his draft slot and the $2 million he was seeking. The 23-year-old passed a physical Saturday and the deal became official with his signature this afternoon. Fields will now join the Mariners' camp as a non-roster invitee.   Continue Reading
