Mike Lamb Rumors

Week In Review: 8/24 - 8/30

Sunday afternoon is here again... let's have a look back at some of the moves and rumors since last time: The injury-plagued Red Sox acquired Mark Kotsay to help compensate for their injuries. In exchange, the Braves received minor league outfielder Luis Sumoza. Nice acquisition by the Red Sox; Kotsay has been swinging a solid bat this season. The Twins acquired Eddie Guardado from Texas in exchange for minor league pitcher Mark Hamburger. Guardado has spent the majority of his career with Minnesota and provides a solid arm to the bullpen. To make room for him, they DFA'd Mike Lamb....   Continue Reading

Stark's Latest: Teixeira, Lamb, Ibanez, Blake

Hot stove highlights from Jayson Stark's latest... Stark sees the Mets picking up Carlos Delgado's $12MM option for '09, taking them out of the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes. He sees the Yankees in the mix for Tex. Will Teixeira top the $140MM the Rangers offered him? The Yanks will also pursue a top flight starting pitcher, with C.C. Sabathia and Ben Sheets as Plans A and B. Stark does not see the Braves diving into megadeals for Sabathia, Sheets, or A.J. Burnett. They'll have payroll room, but could pursue trades or mid-tier free agents. Stark says friends of Tom Glavine and...   Continue Reading

Mike Lamb Designated

TUESDAY: MLB.com's Jim Molony suggests Lamb could be a fit for the Phillies, Cubs, Mets, or Brewers. MONDAY: According to Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, third baseman Mike Lamb was designated for assignment today to make room for Eddie Guardado. Manager Ron Gardenhire questioned Lamb's energy level. Lamb is owed another $690K this year plus $3MM in '09 and a $100K buyout for '10. Several moves and near-moves made by the Twins in recent months have shown a willingness to spend some dough midseason. Lamb's move back to the AL didn't work out; he hit just .233/.276/.322 in 261...   Continue Reading

Twins Sign Mike Lamb

UPDATE, 12-14-07 at 9:45pm: The Houston Chronicle has the dollars on this deal. Lamb will get $6.6MM over the 2008-09 seasons. Sounds about right. In particular it's $3.5MM in '08 and $3MM in '09. LEN3 says bonuses and such plus the option year could make it a three-year, $12.5MM deal. FROM 12-14-07 at 4:48pm: According to Phil Miller, the Twins signed third baseman Mike Lamb to a two-year deal with an option for 2010. Not sure of the money yet, but I'm a fan of this value signing. I've been saying for a while now that Lamb had some of..   Continue Reading

Rangers Rumors: Lamb, Gagne, Prior

As usual, Evan Grant has the latest Rangers hot stove buzz. New acquisition Chris Shelton may see some time at first base for the Rangers. As far as left-handed hitters, the Rangers' options are Mike Lamb, Sean Casey, and in-house choice Frank Catalanotto. Free agents Eric Gagne, LaTroy Hawkins, Corey Patterson, and Milton Bradley are still on the radar. Contrary to previous reports, the Rangers aren't interested in Mark Prior. The Rangers don't want to move Vicente Padilla or Kevin Millwood as straight-up salary dumps   Continue Reading

Rangers Rumors: Blalock, Lamb, Padilla

Evan Grant has the latest Rangers hot stove buzz. 27 year-old third baseman Hank Blalock is getting a lot of play. Grant names the Cardinals, Phillies, Twins, and Dodgers as teams that have inquired. Jon Daniels says no team has made an impressive offer and he's not inclined to trade Blalock. It would be a bit of a sell-low move. The Rangers met with Mike Lamb's agent yesterday afternoon; they're the frontrunners for him. They have a full-time first base job for Lamb, who came up in the organization. Teams are interested in Vicente Padilla, but everyone wants the Johan..   Continue Reading

Lamb Too Pricey For Boston

According to Gordon Edes of the Boston Globe, Mike Lamb is getting too pricey for the Red Sox and he's likely to sign elsewhere as a regular. Lamb deserves to earn a decent buck; he earned $2.7MM in '07 and quietly has solid stats compared to other free agents. It was said yesterday that the Rangers are in the lead for Lamb, as they intend to give him the starting first base job   Continue Reading

Rangers Rumors: Patterson, Bradley, Bay

T.R. Sullivan recently filed his Rangers report at MLB.com. The Rangers will meet with Scott Boras soon to talk about Eric Gagne. Another topic for the Boras conversation: Corey Patterson. The Rangers like Milton Bradley, and have asked for his medical reports. Bradley's agent said a few days ago that he would be ready for Opening Day. The Bucs' asking prices for Jason Bay and Nate McLouth were deemed too high - Eric Hurley and Elvis Andrus were suggested. External first base options: Mike Lamb, Tony Clark, and Ben Broussard   Continue Reading

ESPN's Latest: Lamb, Bedard, Tejada, Loretta

ESPN's Amy Nelson and Buster Olney recently checked in with a few new rumors. The Red Sox checked in on Mike Lamb - they're looking for a corner infield backup. Lamb had good numbers in '07 so he may prefer to look for a starting job. Meanwhile, Evan Grant says the Rangers are in the lead for Lamb. They'd give him that starting gig. The Orioles apparently have four teams already offering impressive packages for Erik Bedard. The Dodgers and O's talked Miguel Tejada last night but they couldn't find a match. The Mariners like Mark Loretta as a backup..   Continue Reading

Odds and Ends: Colon, Clark, Gagne

Random rumors, let's round 'em up. How about Bartolo Colon to the Mets? David Lennon notes that Omar Minaya sold the farm to acquire him in 2002 as the Expos' GM. Scott Lauber says Aaron Rowand is insisting on a five-year deal. He adds that the Phils have interest in Geoff Jenkins but he might be too expensive. Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller are considered untouchable, so don't look for the Tigers to make any big trades. Patrick Saunders runs down some free agents the Rockies may consider for the back end of their rotation: Tony Armas, Matt Clement, Steve..   Continue Reading

Giants Rumors: Cabrera, Rolen, Walker

Finally some Giants rumors! I know a few fans have been clamoring for the team to join the hot stove rumblings. Andrew Baggarly has an article here and Henry Schulman has one here. Let's discuss. The Giants have no one to play third base. Kevin Frandsen could technically do it but they prefer him at second. Thankfully, they will pass on Pedro Feliz. Feliz - get this - wants a three year deal. He's on the Brewers' radar, by the way. Miguel Cabrera is one option, though Baggarly doesn't see the Giants offering up Tim Lincecum to jump into the..   Continue Reading

Rangers Rumors: Kinsler, Laird, Padilla

Here's the latest hot stove buzz surrounding the Rangers. The team will try again to lock up second baseman Ian Kinsler long-term. It would be a five-year deal, buying out one year of free agency. Kinsler had an inconsistent 2007. He hit .298/.375/.667 with 9 HR in April and .256/.351/.393 thereafter. Nice to see him draw 62 walks though. Jon Daniels has had several teams ask him about Gerald Laird and Hank Blalock. He's not likely to sell low on Blalock. But Laird is getting more costly and the Rangers want to use Jarrod Saltalamacchia full-time behind the plate. He's..   Continue Reading

Rangers Rumors: DeJesus, Lamb, Millar

Evan Grant writes for the Dallas Morning News, but he posted this column at night. Go figure. He's got some new info regarding the Rangers. As you know, the Rangers have had difficulty finding a long-term center fielder. That's the main focus of this offseason. The team has already shown interest in Torii Hunter and Aaron Rowand, the top center fielders available. Other free agents such as Andruw Jones and Mike Cameron appear to be in play as well. Grant's trade candidates: Coco Crisp, David DeJesus, Mark Kotsay, and Carlos Beltran. We've speculated on DeJesus to Atlanta in the past...   Continue Reading

Sox Owner Hopes Lowell Stays

Congrats to Cubs, Red Sox, and Diamondbacks fans! What a finish this year has been. At the beer-soaked madness that was Fenway last night, Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner dubbed Mike Lowell the team's MVP. The Boston Globe reports when Principal Owner John Henry was asked if Mike Lowell would be retained, he said, "In Florida, Mike played for me three years, my first three years [as Marlins owner]. We sort of grew up in the game together. It would be a wonderful thing." As Tim pointed out here, Lowell could be open to a 2 year, $22MM contract to..   Continue Reading

Rosenthal's Latest: Possible Waiver Deals

Ken Rosenthal has a new post up; below are some points of interest for rumor-hounds like us. Josh Towers and Steve Trachsel have both cleared waivers. You'll find their contract info as well as a complete list of those who have cleared waivers here. Rosenthal says the Rockies are monitoring both pitchers; they were forced to start journeyman Tim Harikkala today. The Rox also called the A's about Chad Gaudin but found the price prohibitive. Another reason a Gaudin trade wouldn't make sense is that he wouldn't pass through waivers. Towers is attracting multiple suitors. I think he'll have moderate..   Continue Reading

Padres Interested In Igawa, Lamb, Loretta

UPDATE: Will Carroll reports that the Padres appear to be close to a deal for both Lamb and Loretta. Not sure if the Ensberg acquisition changes this. I'm not sure when it was published, but Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the Padres have interest in Mark Loretta or Mike Lamb from the Astros. That we knew, but Krasovic also mentions that the Padres would like to buy low on Kei Igawa but the Yankees aren't shopping him   Continue Reading

Rosenthal's Latest: Dye, Lamb, Jennings

Ken Rosenthal has a new article up. Let's see what's in there beyond the Teixeira stuff. The Angels have a few alternatives to Mark Teixeira in Jermaine Dye and Mike Piazza. However, the team isn't exactly bursting with open outfield/DH spots, especially once Juan Rivera returns. Troy Glaus still makes a ton of sense, but the Blue Jays would want a lot. Probably 2/3 of the Teixeira package. Aside from Mark Loretta, the Padres would also like to acquire Mike Lamb from the Astros. Even tossing aside his awful April, Kevin Kouzmanoff has been about average for his position offensively..   Continue Reading
