Orlando Hudson Rumors

D'Backs Offer Arb To Cruz, Lyon, Hudson; Not Dunn

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic has the D'Backs arbitration decisions. They offered arb to Juan Cruz (Type A), Brandon Lyon (Type B), and Orlando Hudson (Type A) while declining to offer it to Adam Dunn (Type A). I'm surprised by all but Hudson. The D'Backs are taking on a risk, as they don't really have room in the budget for the two relievers. They must be confident they'll decline or they can make trades. Dunn at one year is a worthwhile risk with two draft picks at stake, but the D'Backs were apparently scared off by a possible payday...   Continue Reading

Indians Shift Focus To Closer

According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians decided last week that multiyear deals for Rafael Furcal or Orlando Hudson would be too risky (health concerns). They're likely to switch their focus to finding a closer. Hoynes says the Indians have talked to the agents for Brian Fuentes, Trevor Hoffman, Jason Isringhausen, and Francisco Rodriguez. Hoynes believes the Mets have the upper hand on K-Rod. Still, Fuentes has scheduled a trip to New York to visit with the Mets.   Continue Reading

Kurkjian Reports: Byrnes, Ibanez, Dunn

Tim Kurkjian at ESPN.com has a Friday morning round up for us, looking at several prominent team needs around the league. While the article mentions several big names like Mike Mussina, Matt Holliday, Francisco Rodriguez and Trevor Hoffman, perhaps the most interesting part of Kurkjian's article is that which discusses the offseason plan for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Part of that plan may include trading outfielder Eric Byrnes. Byrnes has two years and $20MM left on his deal with the D'Backs, and will be a challenge to move, says Kurkjian. Byrnes certainly has upside, with great speed and decent pop. But...   Continue Reading

Giants Interested In Hudson

According to Chris Haft of MLB.com, the Giants are seriously interested in signing Orlando Hudson. The Giants have already signed Jeremy Affeldt and Haft says their big off-season plans could also include C.C. Sabathia, Edgar Renteria, Rafael Furcal and Juan Cruz. Kevin Frandsen, who's played mostly at second base, could play third if the Giants obtain Hudson. The Indians, Mets, Yankees and Dodgers all seem interested in Hudson too.   Continue Reading

Indians Rumors: Valverde, Street, Hudson

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer posted a few Indians nuggets in last night's column. GM Mark Shapiro says he hasn't made any offers to free agents yet. It sounds like payroll might land in the $75-80MM range, leaving the team with roughly $15MM to spend. Shapiro admitted that he would explore a trade for Jose Valverde if the Astros closer is truly available. Astros GM Ed Wade said yesterday, "I would love to see Jose here for a long time." The 'Stros have him under team control for one more year, and there's been speculation he could be...   Continue Reading

Heyman's Latest: Burnett, Lowe, Hudson, Tex

SI.com's Jon Heyman has several new blog posts up. Let's take a look. The Yankees planned offers in the four-year, $60MM range for A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe, but that's not sufficient for either pitcher. Burnett wants five years, and Lowe presumably at least $16MM per year and perhaps five as well. The Indians, Mets, and Yankees are in on Orlando Hudson, who wants a five-year, $50MM deal. The Dodgers are another possibility. The New York teams would have to do some shuffling to make room for Hudson. Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported the Indians' interest yesterday...   Continue Reading

Rockies Rumors: Sullivan, Hudson, Fogg

Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post takes a break from his vacation to bring us a few Rockies rumors. About a dozen teams, three of them serious, have expressed interest in Rockies center fielder Cory Sullivan. Sullivan is known for his defense, but the plus/minus system puts him slightly below average. He's in his arbitration years. The Rockies have not been aggressive going after lefthanded relievers, even though they seem to be dropping off the board quickly. Renck speaks of "chatter" the Rockies might go after free agent second baseman Orlando Hudson. Renck is skeptical of the rumor. The...   Continue Reading

Stark's Latest: Abreu, Arroyo, Hudson

ESPN's Jayson Stark is back with a look at needs and plans for all 30 teams. I highly recommend you read the article, but here are a few highlights. He's also got a fresh blog post here. The Phillies are eyeing Doug Brocail and Russ Springer. The Mets like Bobby Abreu, but not his three year, $45MM asking price. The Reds are quietly listening on Bronson Arroyo, and the Rangers may be interested. Contrary to previous reports, Stark believes the Mets' first order of business is getting a starting pitcher. Here's a new one - the Marlins are interested in...   Continue Reading

Cardinals Rumors: Hudson, Lopez, Kennedy

The Cardinals have moved on from Matt Holliday for the time being; let's see what else is cooking. Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has the latest. Middle infield seems to be the primary concern now. One option is to pursue a trade for Kelly Johnson or Yunel Escobar of the Braves, but that will probably require Ryan Ludwick. However, those talks must wait until the Braves resolve their chase of Jake Peavy. On the free agent front, the Cardinals are interested in Orlando Hudson but not Felipe Lopez. Scott Boras seems to be aiming for a multiyear deal...   Continue Reading

Perrotto's Latest: Free Agent Predictions

John Perrotto has his Every Given Sunday column up over at Baseball Prospectus. Perrotto offers a list of some educated guesses as to where some of the top free agents in baseball will land, with some surprises here and there. Let's take a look: Perrotto lists the Yankees loading up on starting pitching, landing C.C. Sabathia and Derek Lowe, while the Dodgers land Manny Ramirez after doubling their initial offer to four years, $100MM. Perrotto says the Nationals will land Mark Teixeira, as they could be prepared to offer Teixeira - a Maryland native - ten years, $200MM. Turning down...   Continue Reading

Heyman's Latest: Furcal, Jenks, Nats, Yankees, White Sox

Here are a few of the latest notes from Jon Heyman... The Dodgers offered Rafael Furcal a two-year deal worth $25-30MM. A source close to Furcal told Heyman that the Dodgers know that it will take more and at least eight teams have expressed interest in Furcal. In the same piece Heyman says the White Sox are open to trading Bobby Jenks, but Heyman's source says it will "take quite a bit." Heyman says the Nationals are not likely to land any of the big names they covet noting they do not have the pieces for a trade and few...   Continue Reading

Giants Rumors: Burrell, Rollins, Rowand

THURSDAY: More Giants info, courtesy of John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. GM Brian Sabean is looking for offense in the infield, but he considers Cain untouchable. Jonathan Sanchez or various pitching prospects could be trade bait instead. Sabean also met with the agents for various free agent hitters and relievers, including Orlando Hudson and Bob Howry. WEDNESDAY: Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News has some interesting rumors this evening. Baggarly believes the rumor of the Giants' interest in Rafael Furcal makes sense, as it'd solidify their middle infield situation. He doesn't see the Giants signing Pat...   Continue Reading

Yankees Rumors: Sabathia, Marte, Mussina

11:09pm: Brian Cashman sums up the Yankees' plan: "We're going to show a lot of love." 12:15pm: It's about time we check in with Yankees links. The Yankees will make their record-breaking pitch to C.C. Sabathia. If it fails, they'll move on to A.J. Burnett, Derek Lowe, and Oliver Perez. Joel Sherman says the Yankees could get involved on Manny Ramirez, but only if they fail to sign Mark Teixeira and manage to trade Hideki Matsui. Sherman says the Yanks are in on the catching market just to be safe, engaging the Rangers about Gerald Laird and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. They'll...   Continue Reading

Heyman's Latest: Holliday, Bradley, Hudson

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports from the GM meetings... Matt Holliday showed up at the GM meetings to talk to Scott Boras, sparking trade speculation by reporters. The Rangers failed to reach an agreement with Milton Bradley, and he'll seek a four-year deal worth more than $10MM per. Good luck with that. Heyman says the Nationals are interested in Mark Teixeira and Matt Holliday, which MLB.com's Bill Ladson first reported yesterday. It does not seem that the Nats have the goods to acquire Holliday. Heyman adds A.J. Burnett as a possibility, though Ken Rosenthal said to scratch them from the running...   Continue Reading

D'Backs Rumors: Hudson, Dunn, Johnson, Rauch

8:19pm: According to the AP, the D'Backs exercised Rauch's $2.9MM option for 2010. He'll earn $2MM in '09. 9:49am: Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic has the latest D'Backs hot stove chatter, here and here. The D'Backs figure to have nine draft picks in the first 75 or so next year. They will probably offer arbitration to Orlando Hudson, Adam Dunn, Juan Cruz, and Brandon Lyon, and see all of them decline to sign elsewhere. They could end up spending $8-12MM on next year's draft, but at least the farm system will be restocked. Team CEO Jeff Moorad says he...   Continue Reading

White Sox Looking To Trade Vazquez?

The latest on the White Sox... GM Ken Williams wants a younger, more athletic club, but still expects to compete in 2009. Players such as Chris Getz, Josh Fields, Jayson Nix, Jerry Owens, Brian Anderson, and Clayton Richard could play prominent roles on next year's team. Sox Machine offers their take on Williams' comments. Chris De Luca of the Chicago Sun-Times lists Brian Roberts, Coco Crisp, Chone Figgins, and Orlando Hudson as potential Sox targets. Williams didn't talk much about his wish list yesterday, suggesting that last year's openness hindered his progress. If the Sox sign Hudson, they'll give their...   Continue Reading

White Sox Offseason Possibilities

I did a White Sox Offseason Outlook earlier this month, rattling off available speedy players and also suggesting a Bobby Jenks trade be explored. Today, Chicago Tribune beat writer Mark Gonzales offers his take on the Sox. Gonzales sees Juan Uribe and Toby Hall as two players the White Sox hope to re-sign, with Hall at a lower salary than his $2.25MM option. Orlando Cabrera, Ken Griffey Jr., and Joe Crede will be gone. Cabrera is good for two draft picks if the Sox offer arbitration and he signs elsewhere. Gonzales wonders if a Paul Konerko for Chone Figgins trade...   Continue Reading

Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Greinke, Manny, Burnett

A look at what is being written around the Blogosphere... Royals Authority feels it will take a Johan Santana-type deal to trade Zack Greinke this offseason. Goat Riders Of The Apocalypse takes an in depth look at the Cubs '09 roster and what changes could be made. Mets Geek (or is it Rays Geek?) thinks the most important move for the Mets this winter is to sign Manny Ramirez, but only for three-years and an option. River Ave. Blues agree that Manny should only be signed by the Yankees if it can be done for less than five years. MetsBlog...   Continue Reading

Odds and Ends: Moore, Manny, Hudson

Reading material for Thursday... NBC San Diego reports that John Moores plans to sell his 49% of the Padres as part of his divorce settlement. Derrick Goold looks at the many teams that might consider Rafael Furcal, including the Cardinals. Imagine the kind of contract he'd be looking at if he'd been healthy all year. I did a Q&A with Sox and Pinstripes recently. According to Mariners president Chuck Armstrong, the new GM will have less power and a smaller payroll than Bill Bavasi. The list of candidates is down to ten. MLB.com's Dick Kaegel talked to Royals GM Dayton...   Continue Reading

Odds and Ends: Hudson, Cano, Mariners GM

Links for Wednesday... ESPN's Jayson Stark reminds us that Manny Ramirez could've been traded to the Phillies in July. But the Phils wouldn't offer Lou Marson, didn't like the idea of Manny in right field, and were concerned about Ramirez's hustle. Matthew Cerrone of MetsBlog gives his early sense of the team's offseason approach. He doesn't seem them splurging on one of the big free agent names. MLB.com's Marty Noble heard Orlando Hudson "yearns to play for the Mets" (hat tip to MetsBlog). Jamey Newberg believes in the Rangers' plan. Joel Sherman of the New York Post doesn't believe Robinson...   Continue Reading

Yankees Rumors: Jeter, Sabathia, Hudson

Let's talk Yankees. Ken Davidoff makes recommendations for the '09 Yankees. He would sign Derek Lowe and Andy Pettitte, and offer arbitration to Damaso Marte and Bobby Abreu. Jim Baumbach explains a tricky situation coming up: re-signing Derek Jeter. Peter Abraham takes a look at various free agents on the minds' of Yankees fans. Tyler Kepner of the New York Times says first priority for the Yankees is to re-sign Brian Cashman. I imagine they already have a Plan B in place, but recent reports lean toward Cashman returning. Kepner says the Indians were aggressive in pursuing a deadline deal...   Continue Reading

Perrotto's Latest: GMs, Angels, Offseason Moves

John Perrotto at Baseball Prospectus has his Every Given Sunday column up, let's take a look at what he has to say: Perrotto believes that there's a good chance that the only GM change baseball will see this offseason may be the one we already know about, as Pat Gillick has already announced his retirement. Perrotto cites Assitant GM Ruben Amaro Jr. as a likely replacement. The most likely other change is in Seattle, and cites Dodgers' Assistant GM Kim Ng as a possible replacement, which would make her the first female general manager in the game's history. Perrotto believes...   Continue Reading

Heyman's Latest: Epstein, Cano, Hudson

Highlights from Jon Heyman's latest column at SI.com: Brewers owner Mark Attanasio reportedly made the decision to fire Ned Yost, but GM Doug Melvin's power is not diminished. Theo Epstein's new agreement is for three years. Heyman notes "talk lately that the Yankees might consider trading Robinson Cano." Apparently Cano still has good trade value and the Yankees could fill multiple needs in a deal. Heyman says the Dodgers are interested. Cano was subject of an odd Dodgers rumor back in July. The Yanks would be interested in Orlando Hudson if they were to trade Cano. Alex Rodriguez patched things...   Continue Reading

Rosenthal's Latest: Hudson, Ordonez, Fielder, Howard

Let's swing through Ken Rosenthal's latest column. Rosenthal names the Mets, Yankees, Rangers, White Sox, Indians, Rockies, and Cardinals as speculative fits for free agent second baseman Orlando Hudson. Obviously several of those scenarios would involve shuffling players to other positions or trades. The Yankees' infield defense could certainly use the boost. Rosenthal considers Frank Wren's midseason trip to Japan a sign that he might be active in that market. The Tigers may shop Magglio Ordonez for pitching this winter. Maggs will need fewer than 500 plate appearances next year to cause his 2010 and 2011 options to vest. So...   Continue Reading

A Tale Of Two Second Basemen: Hudson, Castillo

Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News, via MetsBlog, notes that the Mets are looking to shop Luis Castillo this off-season. This comes just one year after the team signed him to a four-year, $25MM deal. His aching knees have limited him to just over 300 plate appearances this year. It's not clear who would want Castillo, nor how much salary the Mets would need to eat. One speculated target is Orlando Hudson, who sits atop an uninspiring class of free agent second basemen. He'll be in high demand, of course. The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro talks about Hudson's...   Continue Reading

Gammons' Latest: Martin, Dunn, Quentin

Here's the latest blog post from ESPN's Peter Gammons... Takashi Saito is mentioned as a free agent this winter, but I believe it's a situation where he can only re-sign, return to Japan, or retire. Gammons heard talk that Russell Martin could be switched permanently to third base. In that scenario, the Dodgers would sign a pitching-oriented catcher such as Jason Varitek. Would that be a good move? Adam Dunn knows it's cliche, but he intends to prioritize winning over money when he hits free agency. The D'Backs were asking a lot for Carlos Quentin last winter, with the White...   Continue Reading

Rosenthal's Latest: Angels, D'Backs, Giambi, Ellis

Here is the latest from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Many important Angels will reach free agency this winter: Mark Teixeira, Francisco Rodriguez, Jon Garland, and Juan Rivera. Rosenthal doesn't expect any of these four back. Garret Anderson's $14MM option will not be exercised, but he could be re-signed. John Lackey and Vladimir Guerrero both have reasonable club options for '09, but the Halos need to plan beyond that. Several journalists have noted the D'Backs may restock the farm system if they let Adam Dunn, Orlando Hudson, Brandon Lyon, and Juan Cruz depart as free agents after the season. They're...   Continue Reading

Odds and Ends: Kielty, Ellis, Bonds, Poreda

Time to for today's link collection. The Twins signed Bobby Kielty to a minor league deal. The former Twin was released by the Red Sox in July. When he's going good, he can hit lefties pretty well. Peter Magowan is glad the Giants didn't successfully pull off an attempted trade for Manny Ramirez before the '07 season. However, as Henry Schulman notes, that might've prevented the Barry Zito contract. The Reds haven't talked to the agents for any of their potential free agents, and no decision has been made on Adam Dunn. Susan Slusser wonders if the D'Backs will try...   Continue Reading

Rosenthal's Latest: Giles, Dodgers, Indians, Fielder

Ken Rosenthal has a new Full Count video up over at FOX Sports. Here's the highlights: The Red Sox wanted to use Brian Giles in right field against certain right-handers, and shift J.D. Drew over to center field for those games. Giles blocked the trade for family reasons, according to Rosenthal, despite the chance at an increased pay day and an opportunity to play in the postseason. Rosenthal says that while the Dodgers are under pressure to re-sign Manny Ramirez, there may be more pressure to sign Casey Blake after this season. Rosenthal points out that Blake is batting .333...   Continue Reading

Rauch Ramifications

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic has an article today about the implications of the Diamondbacks' acquisition of reliever Jon Rauch. The loss of second baseman Emilio Bonifacio doesn't exactly change the D'Back's plans, as they were skeptical on his ability to become a regular anyway. Still, people are asking whether they'll try to re-sign Orlando Hudson. Piecoro says Hudson is expected to test the free agent market, and doesn't seem likely to offer a discount. His salary should exceed $10MM. If Hudson leaves, the D'Backs could either look for a new second baseman or shift Mark Reynolds over there...   Continue Reading

Odds and Ends: Bedard, Hudson, Inoa, Varitek

Let's dig through today's links. Cork Gaines takes a look at the Rays most likely to be traded. According to Ken Davidoff, the Rockies have been scouting Yankees pitching prospect Humberto Sanchez. He'd be a more reasonable return for Brian Fuentes. Erik Bedard's MRI came out clean, but it's still hard to see him in a big league game before August. Dan Haren used to follow every trade rumor on the Internet, but Justin Duchscherer doesn't monitor the hot stove buzz. Shane Victorino is aware of the rumors, but wants to stay in Philly. With Emilio Bonifacio gone, Scott Bordow...   Continue Reading

Stark's Latest: Holliday, Lofton, Hudson, Greinke

Time to delve into Jayson Stark's latest column for ESPN. The Rockies are 9.5 games out, and if they slip further over the next month they may trade Matt Holliday or Garrett Atkins (not both). If so, they'd be flexible on the number and ages of the players they'd want in return. Aaron Cook will not be traded. Stark talked to one team official who speculated the Pirates could keep their outfield intact in the name of a run at .500. Presumably they'd be doing this for the fans, but diehards would probably prefer a sweet bounty of young players...   Continue Reading

Rosenthal's Latest: Hudson, Turnbow, Laird, Kershaw

Rumorland Ambassador Ken Rosenthal has posted yet another Full Count video. Let's get sifting: Rosenthal thinks Orlando Hudson could be shown the money this offseason if he opts to explore free agency. Hudson most likely won't be offered market value by the Dbacks. Rosenthal posits the Orioles, Cards, Dodgers, and Mariners as potential buyers. 4 unnamed teams are interested in Derrick Turnbow, who is making $3.2MM this year. According to KR, the Brewers would need to throw money in a deal or get a comparable salary in return - as the saying goes, you trade contracts, not players. Turnbow needs...   Continue Reading

Orlando Hudson Denies $15MM Asking Price

On April 9th, Jack Macgruder of the East Valley Tribune said that D'Backs second baseman Orlando Hudson seeks $15MM per year for his next contract. That would suggest he is in Chase Utley's class. MLB.com's Barry Bloom inquired with Hudson on this topic today but didn't get much out of him. Hudson did tell Bloom that Macgruder's report was false, though. Hudson also made a point to say that he'd love to stay in Arizona.   Continue Reading

Orlando Hudson Wants $15MM Per Year?

Jack Macgruder of the East Valley Tribune reports a major gap between second baseman Orlando Hudson and D'Backs management. Macgruder says Hudson seeks something close to the $15MM per year Chase Utley received to cover his free agent seasons. Hudson seems to be asking for too much, but maybe it's just his starting point. Aaron Hill seems like a better comparable than Utley, and Hill has options for his free agent years at around $8MM. Brandon Phillips' free agent years were valued in the $11-12MM range; Ian Kinsler gets $7-10MM. It does seem that Hudson could crack a $10MM salary...   Continue Reading

Orlando Hudson Heads Into Contract Year

Second baseman Orlando Hudson is set to reach free agency after the 2008 season, with Mark Ellis as the strongest alternative in his class. Hudson will be 31 for the '09 season and figures to get a deal averaging at least $7MM. Baseball Prospectus' numbers say a fair value four-year pact would be around $25MM. But Hudson is significantly better than Luis Castillo, who recently received that deal from the Mets. Hudson should easily pass $30MM on a four-year deal. Perhaps only Aaron Hill can rival Hudson's second base defense. Hudson is no slouch with the bat either, though his...   Continue Reading

Rosenthal's Latest: Prior, Bedard, Haren

The rumor mill is picking up today, thanks in no short part to Ken Rosenthal. Check out his latest column. Rosenthal believes the Padres are Mark Prior's first choice, but as usual they won't pay as much as other teams. Both Texas clubs are in the lead for Prior currently. Rosenthal also names the Cards, Mets, and Yankees are suitors, as we knew. The Pirates, by the way, have not inquired. Talks for Erik Bedard have slowed down, because the Orioles aren't impressed with the offers. The Mariners, Reds, and Mets are the top contenders. Rosenthal indicates that the Reds..   Continue Reading

Odds and Ends: Johan, Hudson, A-Rod, Dallas

Collection o' links... LENIII has a Johan Santana update...nothing groundbreaking going on, pretty much looks like the Yanks and Red Sox are still both involved. The Brewers were apparently pretty deep in discussions for Miguel Tejada during the Winter Meetings. After a year out of baseball Javy Lopez is back with the Braves on a minor-league deal. Remember when he slugged .687 with 43 home runs in 457 ABs? Good times. Nick Piecoro has some chatter about Orlando Hudson, who hits free agency after the '08 season. The most interesting part is that Hudson refers to Bob Melvin as "Bo-Mel."..   Continue Reading

Levine's Latest: Rowand, Prior, Hudson, Swisher

Bruce Levine of ESPN 1000 went on air a few hours ago with some interesting tidbits regarding the Chicago teams. This was before the Sox acquired Carlos Quentin so I'm not sure what kind of effect that has on this info. The White Sox are still very much in the mix for Aaron Rowand, but they really don't want to give him five years. By the way Jerry Crasnick mentioned today that the Phillies may be willing to stretch to four years on Rowand or at least three years plus a vesting option. The Cubs are having all sorts of..   Continue Reading

Eckstein seeking Lugo-esque deal

If Julio Lugo was able to snag four years and $36 million last off-season, well, by golly, David Eckstein wants to do the same this year. You can make some arguments with the comparison - Lugo is a year younger, flashes a bit more power, and has been more consistent in his production (from year-to-year; we're not counting his huge drop-off after being traded to the Dodgers last year). But it's tough to argue with Eckstein for wanting to start talks at that level. This may deter Eckstein's perceived No. 1 suitor, the New York Mets, who are looking at..   Continue Reading

Mets Rumors: Eckstein, Dotel

Let's catch up with the Mets, who are moving on to other needs now that they've settled their catching situation. MetsBlog's Matthew Cerrone says the Mets have some interest in David Eckstein as a second base option, and may meet with him soon to wine and dine him. Eckstein might be the backup option to Luis Castillo. I've said all along, I don't get why Eckstein would market himself as a second baseman. As a shortstop he stands to get $21MM over three years; as a second baseman he doesnt. Ben Shpigel of the New York Times adds that the..   Continue Reading

White Sox A Match For Orlando Hudson

Speculating has been going strong for quite a while now that the White Sox have interest in Diamondbacks second baseman Orlando Hudson. As Yahoo's Tim Brown explains, Josh Byrnes and Kenny Williams talk often and Byrnes could use a starting pitcher. As I mentioned earlier, the D'Backs have cheap options at second base if they're willing to sacrifice some defense. Or the Sox could just include Tadahito Iguchi in the deal. The White Sox would basically be acquiring Hudson for 2008. He would certainly fit the bill of Major League talent Williams desires, and he'd strengthen the team defensively. Byrnes..   Continue Reading

Orlando Hudson Expects To Leave Arizona

In a radio interview Monday afternoon, Diamondbacks second baseman Orlando Hudson indicated that he doesn't expect to remain with the team for his career or even the next few years. His agent has at least had extension discussions with the D'Backs' front office though. Hudson is eligible for free agency after the 2008 season. 2006 was a breakout season for Hudson, but he just keeps getting better. He's going to obliterate his career high in walks, and he's hitting for more power than ever. And he's known as one of the best defensive second basemen in the game. The only..   Continue Reading

Buzz Around The Game

Believe it or not, there's a ton of stuff going on today that doesn't involve the words "Prior" or "Tejada." A tentative Troy Glaus trade has been reached. The Diamondbacks dumped Glaus and his contract on the Blue Jays for Orlando Hudson and Miguel Batista. Brandon Webb, far and away the most extreme groundball pitcher in baseball, benefits greatly from the addition of Hudson. Another effect is the breakup of a highly rated defensive infield, at least in the eyes of Dayn Perry. The Blue Jays now have a logjam of 1B/3B/DH guys, and Rosenthal speculates that Shea Hillenbrand is..   Continue Reading
