Randy Flores Rumors

Colorado Re-Signs Matt Belisle, Randy Flores

8:42 PM: The Denver Post's Troy Renck has an update on the contract details. 6:25 PM: The Rockies re-signed relievers Matt Belisle and Randy Flores to one-year contracts on Thursday. Terms of the deals weren't announced, though both pitchers were eligible for salary arbitration. Belisle, a right-hander, posted a 5.52 ERA but a strong 4.4:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 24 appearances last year with Colorado after spending his first five big-league seasons in Cincinnati. Southpaw Flores appeared in 27 games for the Rockies last season, recording a strong 10.5 K/9. Tracy Ringolsby believes that with Belisle and Flores back in the...   Continue Reading

Odds & Ends: Bowden, Owens, Flores

Links for Thursday... MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo and ESPN's Jason Churchill say high school catcher Luke Bailey is having Tommy John surgery. He might fall out of the top 20 in the draft, says Churchill. Thom Loverro of The Washington Times transcribes all kinds of amusing comments made by former Nationals GM Jim Bowden earlier this month. Bowden touched upon Stephen Strasburg, Mark Teixeira, and Aaron Crow. Alex Speier of WEEI notes that free agency hasn't done much for the Red Sox recently, outside of the Tim Wakefield and David Ortiz bargain signings. ESPN's Jim Caple talked to pitcher Jeff Zimmerman,...   Continue Reading

Rockies Sign Randy Flores

Troy Renck reported it on Tuesday, but now it's official. The Rockies have signed left-handed reliever Randy Flores to a minor league contract. Flores will earn $600K this season if he makes the team. He appeared in 43 games for the Cardinals in '08, posting a 5.26 ERA before undergoing shoulder surgery near the end of the season. He probably won't be ready for Opening Day.   Continue Reading

Rockies, Randy Flores Agree To Terms

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies have agreed to terms with left-handed reliever Randy Flores on a minor league contract worth $600K. Along with the deal comes an invitation to spring training. The Rockies had discussed adding Joe Beimel, but Flores was clearly the much cheaper option. The 33-year-old posted a 5.26 ERA in 43 appearances for the Cardinals last season and a 4.25 mark in 2007.   Continue Reading

Stark On Andruw, Swisher, Hudson, Pedro

The latest from ESPN's Jayson Stark... Stark looks at all the factors influencing this year's slow-moving free agent market, talking to all sorts of anonymous execs. It's a good read. Among all the teams, the Phillies have added the most to their payroll this winter ($30MM+). Only ten teams raised payroll this year. The Phils are still looking at the same cast of righthanded bench bats, and are also looking to sign a reliever for one year. Names of interest: Joe Borowski, Rudy Seanez, Will Ohman, Joe Beimel, Dennys Reyes, and Randy Flores. Stark notes that Flores is out until...   Continue Reading

Phillies Bullpen Update

MLB.com's Todd Zolecki notes that the Phillies still have a few holes in their bullpen. The club has expressed interest in Joe Beimel, Will Ohman, and Randy Flores this offseason, but those guys are still seeking relatively expensive (and lengthy) contracts. "They're looking for the multiyear deals," GM Ruben Amaro said Wednesday. "It's more an issue of length than dollars, I think." Zolecki believes that the Phillies may ultimately decide to solve their bullpen issues from within. Chan Ho Park could make for a useful long reliever if he's unable to crack the starting rotation. Kyle Kendrick and J.A. Happ...   Continue Reading
