Hope everyone's Sunday is going well! Here's some links for the afternoon... Israel Gutierrez of the Miami Herald feels that the face of the Marlins' future is ace Josh Johnson. Gutierrez feels that the most critical move the Marlins need to make it locking up Johnson to a long-term deal. To quote Gutierrez: "If Hanley Ramirez was worth paying for, then Johnson is at least as important, if not more." David Lennon of Newsday has Tim Redding's take on the possibility of being released: "I'm not an idiot. I've been around the game long enough to know what's going on,...

More links for Wednesday... There's a question worth asking on NorthJersey.com: Are Tim Redding's Mets days numbered? Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Rich Aurilia doesn't concern himself with murmurs that his job is not secure. Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times believes the Mariners should hold on to their talent and try to win this year. The Cardinals signed a prospect named Adriano Uribe according to MLB.com. A few links for Saturday... Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post reports that Omar Minaya says the Mets won't sign Pedro Martinez. Buster Olney was on this one earlier in the week, but that was before the Mets had to shut Tim Redding down because of weakness in his pitching shoulder. According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle Bobby Crosby played third and first yesterday in a Spring Training game. He had never played first before and had to borrow a glove. Playing well at many positions couldn't hurt his trade value. We missed this one earlier...

2:12pm: Troy Renck says Redding agreed in principle to a one-year, $2.25MM deal with the Mets. 1:12pm: According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Mets are close to signing Tim Redding to a one-year deal for $2.25MM plus incentives. Ken Davidoff of Newsday also has it, suggesting the deal is for about $2.5MM. The Mets figure to add Derek Lowe or Oliver Perez as well. Not sure if this takes them out on Pedro Martinez. After signing Lowe or Perez the Mets may have the luxury of using Mike Pelfrey in the #5 role to limit his innings slightly.

The latest from SI.com's Jon Heyman... The Giants "look like a major threat" to the Dodgers for Manny Ramirez and are "making a serious run at him." Former teammate J.T. Snow apparently raved about him. Nonetheless Heyman says the Dodgers are "probably still considered the favorite." Heyman lists the Rangers as "intrigued." He believes Ramirez will get three guaranteed years somewhere. Heyman says Derek Lowe is "quite possibly" in play for the Phillies, though we heard from Ken Rosenthal today that the team denied interest. Heyman also sticks with the Brewers and Angels as outside possibilities despite reports to the...

Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post weighs in on various free agent pitchers. The Rockies are a long shot for Tim Redding following their Jason Marquis acquisition. The Mets and Orioles still like him; he may command $2.5-3MM. Josh Fogg would like to return to Colorado, but has drawn interest from other teams as well. The Rangers and D'Backs are interested in Jason Jennings. Jennings missed most of the season after signing with Texas for $4MM. He had surgery in May to repair a torn flexor tendon in his forearm.
