High school lefty Stephen Gonsalves has agreed to a $700k bonus with the Twins, according to Jim Callis of Baseball America (on Twitter). The fourth-round pick Gonsalves, once considered a possible first-rounder, signed for about $232k over slot rather than attending the University of San Diego. The Diamondbacks have signed second-round choice Justin Williams with a roughly at-slot bonus, tweets Callis. <ul>
<li>High school lefty&#0160;<strong>Stephen Gonsalves</strong>&#0160;has agreed to a $700k bonus with the <strong>Twins</strong>, according to Jim Callis of Baseball America (<a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/347504287208845313" target="_blank">on Twitter</a>). The fourth-round pick Gonsalves, once considered a possible first-rounder, signed for about $232k over slot rather than attending the University of San Diego.&#0160;</li>
<li>The <strong>Diamondbacks</strong>&#0160;have signed second-round choice <strong>Justin Williams</strong>&#0160;with a roughly at-slot bonus, <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/347415230365720576" target="_blank">tweets</a>&#0160;Callis. The high school shortstop, who is advised by the Boras Corporation, will likely take his raw power to the outfield as a pro.</li>
<li>The <strong>Phillies</strong>&#0160;will not sign sixth-round choice <strong>Jason Monda</strong>, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports <a href="https://twitter.com/ToddZolecki/status/347463082320220160" target="_blank">on Twitter</a>. The Washington State junior had initially seemed willing to sign, but elected instead to return for his final year as a collegiate ballplayer.</li>
<li>Third-rounder <strong>Jacob Hannemann</strong> has agreed to a $1MM bonus with the <strong>Cubs</strong>, Callis reports <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/347466820296536065" target="_blank">via Twitter</a>. The contract pays the speedy BYU outfielder over $250k more than his recommended slot.</li>
<li>The <strong>Indians</strong>&#0160;have given a well-above-slot bonus to fifth-round choice <strong>Sean Brady</strong>, <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/347476873351135232" target="_blank">tweets</a>&#0160;Callis. The high-school lefty, who is advised by Tom O&#39;Connell, will receive $800k from Cleveland, over double the $347,100 slot recommendation.</li>
<li><strong>Yankees</strong>&#0160;second-rounder <strong>Gosuke Katoh </strong>has signed for the full slot value of $845,700, according to Callis (<a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/347392835894530048" target="_blank">on Twitter</a>).</li>
<li>Callis also reports that the <strong>Padres</strong>&#0160;signed supplemental second-rounder <strong>Jordan Paroubeck </strong>for a $750K bonus (<a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/347378683973103616" target="_blank">Twitter</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/347384501648908289" target="_blank">links</a>). The prep outfielder from California has solid tools across the board, according to Callis. He signed for $58K under slot.</li>
<li>The <strong>Padres</strong>&#0160;have also agreed to terms with eighth-rounder <strong>Adrian De Horta </strong>on a well over-slot deal, MLBTR has learned. De Horta, who is advised by Terry Jones of Reynolds Sports Management, agreed to a $425K signing bonus, which is about $269K over slot value for the No. 238 overall selection. The deal is pending a physical. MLB.com doesn&#39;t have a full scouting report on De Horta, though they do offer a <a href="http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?topic_id=40395496&amp;content_id=27725117" target="_blank">scouting video</a> for Padres fans to check out.</li>

        <summary>Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters, including Andy McCullough of the Star Ledger, that Kevin Youkilis will undergo back surgery for a herniated disc and miss 10-12 weeks (Twitter link). The best-case scenario for Youkilis, based on that timeline, would be a late August return, though the recovery could easily push into September. Youkilis, 34, signed a one-year, $12MM deal with the Yankees this offseason. He hit a respectable .267/.347/.422 through April 27 before landing on the disabled list with a sprained back. The best-case scenario for Youkilis, based on that timeline, would be a late August return, though the recovery could easily push into September.</p>
<p>Youkilis, 34, <a href="http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/12/yankees-sign-kevin-youkilis.html" target="_blank">signed a one-year, $12MM deal</a> with the Yankees this offseason. <p>A strong rebound campaign with the Bombers could&#39;ve positioned Youkilis to sign a multi-year free agent deal this coming winter. Now, however, a one-year deal seems likely given the lack of production and significant time on the disabled list. The injury-prone corner infielder hasn&#39;t appeared in more than 122 games since 2009.</p>
<p>Youkilis never cracked <a href="http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014-free-agent-power-rankings/" target="_blank">Tim Dierkes&#39; free agent power rankings</a> (and certainly won&#39;t now). He&#39;ll part of a first base class that is flooded with veterans <a href="http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/02/2014-mlb-free-agents.html" target="_blank">this offseason in free agency</a>, as&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/moralke01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Kendrys  Morales</a></strong>, <strong><a href="/players/m/morsemi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Michael  Morse</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hartco01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Corey  Hart</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/napolmi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Mike  Napoli</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/konerpa01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Paul  Konerko</a></strong>, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/morneju01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Justin  Morneau</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/reynoma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Mark  Reynolds</a>&#0160;</strong>will all be on the market. <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>Yesterday we learned that the Dodgers and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kershcl01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Clayton  Kershaw</a></strong> are <a href="http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/dodgers-kershaw-discussing-extension.html" target="_blank">making progress</a> on a contract extension that will be worth at least $180MM. &#0160;In fact,&#0160;deals for up to 12 years and $300MM have been discussed, in addition to the seven-year deal already being worked on. &#0160;Here&#39;s more on the Dodgers&#39; star pitcher and other news out of L.A...</p>
<ul>
<li>The Dodgers have been waiting for the resolution of their TV contract situation wtih Major League Baseball before picking up talks with Kershaw in earnest, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com (on <a href="https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/346293514541338624" target="_blank">Twitter</a>). &#0160;It initially appeared that the Dodgers&#39; massive TV deal was going to be largely immune to revenue sharing, but they&#39;ll now <a href="http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/rosenthal-on-hughes-gallardo-kershaw-pirates.html" target="_blank">have to kick in</a> an additional $1B over the course of 25 years.</li>
<li>In speaking with reporters, including Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times (on <a href="https://twitter.com/dylanohernandez/status/346299997907726338" target="_blank">Twitter</a>), Kershaw sounded upset with what he believed to be a leak from the organization and called it a &quot;distraction&quot;.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/more_sports/dodgers_gambled_big_session_phenom_hMrc8WG9rGlV9XtldJByiI" target="_blank">Joel Sherman of the New York Post</a> recounted the bizarre story of how the Dodgers wound up signing <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/puigya01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Yasiel Puig</a></strong>, despite having very little intel on him. &#0160;Within the story, Sherman writes that the Mets were never involved with him and the Yankees didn&#39;t make an offer.</li>
<li>Not much of a surprise here, but manager <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mattido01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Don  Mattingly</a></strong> says that Puig will probably remain in the majors even if/when <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kempma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Matt  Kemp</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/crawfca02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Carl  Crawford</a></strong> return to action, <a href="https://twitter.com/dylanohernandez/status/346287071981355008" target="_blank">tweets</a>&#0160;Hernandez.</li>

<ul>
<li>The <strong>Orioles</strong> have agreed to terms with Scottsdale Community College lefty&#0160;<strong>Stephen Tarpley</strong>, the team&#39;s third-round choice, according to&#0160;Baseball America&#39;s Jim Callis (<a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345344197060091904" target="_blank">via Twitter</a>). Tarpley, who reportedly touches 95 with his fastball, was signed for just $500 under the recommended $525,500 bonus for the 98th overall choice.</li>
<li>Third-round draft choice <strong>Brandon Dixon</strong>&#0160;has signed with the <strong>Dodgers</strong>&#0160;for the slot recommendation of $566,500, <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345331601623896064" target="_blank">tweets</a> Callis. The University of Arizona third baseman could become a corner outfielder, according to Callis, and is noted for his power potential.</li>
<li>The <strong>Dodgers </strong>have signed fourth-round choice <strong>Cody Bellinger</strong>, a high-school first baseman, for $700k, <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345321743164006401" target="_blank">tweets</a> Callis. Los Angeles pried Bellinger away from the University of Oregon with the largest over-slot signing to date (by percentage), nearly doubling the recommended $409k bonus. Bellinger is being advised by the Beverly Hills Sports Council.</li>
<li>The <strong>Blue Jays</strong>&#0160;have agreed to terms with their fourth round pick, left-handed high-schooler <strong>Evan Smith</strong>,&#0160;according to Callis (<a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345204271442178048" target="_blank">on Twitter</a>). Smith, who stands at 6&#39;5&quot;, has reportedly touched 93 with his fastball. $96.1k&#0160;</li>
<li><strong>Cody Dickson</strong>, a <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345205531427876864" target="_blank">&quot;projectable&quot;</a>&#0160;left-hander out of Sam Houston State, will sign with the <strong>Pirates</strong>&#0160;for $375k, Callis says <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345206776397963264" target="_blank">on Twitter</a>. The fourth-round pick&#39;s bonus falls $54,200 under the slot recommendation.</li>
<li>The <strong>Reds</strong>&#0160;have signed fourth-rounder&#0160;<strong>Ben Lively</strong> for $350k, Callis <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345205531427876864" target="_blank">tweets</a>. The righty mixes four pitches, including a 90-93 MPH heater. His signing bonus comes in at a modest $17.9k under slot.&#0160;</li>
<li>The <strong>Rockies </strong>inked fifth-rounder<strong> Blake Shouse</strong> for $353,900, his exact slot allocation, according to a Callis <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345298996698439680" target="_blank">tweet</a>. Per Callis, the two-way player sits in the low-to-mid 90&#39;s with his fastball and also features a hard curve.</li>
<li>Third round pick <strong>Patrick Murphy </strong>signed with the <strong>Blue Jays </strong>for $500K, Callis <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345224248626921472" target="_blank">tweets</a>. &#0160;The Arizona high school right-hander missed the year after undergoing Tommy John surgery. &#0160;In the past, he has displayed a 93 mph fastball and solid curveball. &#0160;Murphy is advised by&#0160;Jonathan Pridie of Sosnick Cobbe.</li>
<li>The&#0160;<strong>Yankees</strong> signed third-rounder <strong>Michael O&#39;Neill</strong> for $501K, according to Callis (via <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345260544745435137" target="_blank">Twitter</a>). The Michigan outfielder is quick and could wind up in center field.</li>
<li><strong>Rangers</strong>&#0160;fourth-round pick <strong>Isaiah Kiner-Falefa</strong>&#0160;signed for $202K, per Callis (<a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345204793549131776" target="_blank">on Twitter</a>). The Hawaiian high school shortstop is a solid defender with a contact-oriented approach. He signed for nearly $184K under slot.</li>
<li>Catcher/right-hander <strong>Tanner Murphy</strong>, a fourth-round pick of the <strong>Braves</strong>, agreed to a $250K bonus to forego his commitment to Southern Illinois, <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345205185389404162" target="_blank">Callis tweets</a>. Murphy has power in his bat and a strong throwing arm behind the dish, and he&#39;s also been clocked at 92 mph on the mound. He signed for a healthy $125K below slot.</li>
<li>The <strong>Angels</strong>&#0160;have signed third-round pick <strong>Kenyan Middleton </strong>for a bonus of $450K, <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345203620276486145" target="_blank">tweets Callis</a>. Middleton is a two-sport athlete out of junior college in Oregon who touches 95 mph with his fastball and features a tight slider as well. He signed $91K under slot.</li>
<li>The <strong>Rays </strong>have signed fifth-round selection <strong>Johnny Field </strong>for a bonus of $250K, Callis reports (<a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/345163358644891650" target="_blank">on Twitter</a>). Field, an outfielder out of the University of Arizona, will convert to second base and provides most of his value with his bat. He signed for nearly $45K under slot.</li>

Smith signed slightly under the assigned pick value of $433K. The high school outfielder from Idaho was committed to Utah and projects to have a plus bat with average power. MLB.com&#39;s Corey Brock first reported the Smith signing, as noted below.</li>
<li><strong>Pirates</strong>&#0160;ninth-rounder <strong>Chad Kuhl</strong>&#0160;signed for the full slot value of $145K, <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/344886315654971392" target="_blank">tweets Callis</a>, who adds that the Delaware right-hander generates a lot of ground-balls with his sinker.</li>
<li>The <strong>Yankees </strong>have signed fourth-rounder <strong>Tyler Wade </strong>to a deal worth $371K, according to Callis (on <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/344867179776315392" target="_blank">Twitter</a>). &#0160;The high school shortstop&#39;s bonus matches the assigned value of his pick. &#0160;Callis writes that Wade boasts plus speed and a plus arm with a line-drive bat.</li>
<li><a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/344816445013757952" target="_blank">Callis tweets</a> that the <strong>Mariners</strong>&#0160;signed third-round pick <strong>Tyler O&#39;Neill</strong>&#0160;to an above-slot $650K bonus (assigned value was $631K). O&#39;Neill, a prep catcher from Canada, has drawn comparisons to Brett Lawrie because of his bat and power. He&#39;s likely to end up in the outfield.</li>
<li>The <strong>Diamondbacks</strong>&#0160;have signed third-round pick and first baseman/outfielder&#0160;<strong>Daniel Palka</strong>&#0160;for $550K, <a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/344816772567945216" target="_blank">Callis tweets</a>. Arizona secured the Georgia Tech product under slot, as the assigned pick value for the No. 88 slot was $603K. Palka has big power and a strong arm that could profile in right field, Callis adds.</li>
<li>The <strong>Reds</strong>&#0160;went over slot to sign their fifth-round pick, according to Callis (<a href="https://twitter.com/jimcallisBA/status/344818220844347392" target="_blank">Twitter link</a>), inking prep shortstop <strong>Cory Thompson</strong>&#0160;for $367K (slot was $275K). Callis adds that Thompson is a solid runner with a good glove and some pop in his bat, but he also has a fastball in the low 90s.</li>
<li><a href="https://twitter.com/FollowThePadres/status/344708989541576704" target="_blank">MLB.com&#39;s Corey Brock tweets</a> that the <strong>Padres </strong>have signed 20 draft picks, including Hofstra right-hander <strong>Bryan Verbitsky </strong>(No. 86 overall), high school center fielder <strong>Mason Smith</strong>&#0160;(No. 118) San Francisco right-hander <strong>Adam Cimber</strong>&#0160;(No. 268) and UNC right-hander <strong>Justin Livengood </strong>(No. 298). The slot values for those picks are $621K, $433K, $146K and $134K, respectively.</li>

Yankees first-round pick Aaron Judge says that he&#39;s &quot;real confident&quot; that he&#39;ll be signing soon with the Bombers, tweets Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. allowing four runs while striking out five and walking two over 5 1/3
innings. Here are more notes from around the league.</p>
<ul>
<li>Last November, the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks expressed interest in <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rodrial01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Alex Rodriguez</a></strong>, <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/10/sports/baseball/japanese-suitor-for-yankees-alex-rodriguez-got-no-response.html?ref=baseball&amp;_r=0" target="_blank">Ken Belson and David Waldstein of the New York Times report</a>. The Yankees never discussed the matter with the Japanese team, because they knew Rodriguez required hip surgery that would limit him in 2013, and because they knew Rodriguez would not consent to playing overseas.<strong></strong></li>
<li><strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/player_search.cgi?results=davisik02,davisik01&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Ike Davis</a></strong>&#39; poor performance (and <a href="http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/mets-demote-ike-davis.html" target="_blank">subsequent demotion</a>) may make him a non-tender candidate in the coming offseason, <a href="http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/69143/has-ike-become-non-tender-candidate?utm_source=twitterfeed&amp;utm_medium=twitter" target="_blank">Adam Rubin of ESPN New York argues</a>. Davis will make $3.125MM this season, and will be eliglble for arbitration next season. He hit .161/.242/.258 in 207 plate appearances this year before the <strong>Mets </strong>shipped him to Triple-A Las Vegas. &#0160;<a href="http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/05/potential-non-tender-candidates.html" target="_blank">Last month</a>, MLBTR&#39;s Tim Dierkes discussed many potential non-tender candidates, including Davis, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/richacl01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Clayton Richard</a></strong>, and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/perezch01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Perez</a></strong>.</li>
<li>The <strong>Pirates </strong>have had a number of surprisingly good pitching performances this year, and what connects them is catcher <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/martiru01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Russell Martin</a></strong>, <a href="http://triblive.com/news/adminpage/4170357-74/martin-pirates-park?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+tribunereviewpirates+%28Pirates+Stories%29&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader#axzz2VsF7EV3n" target="_blank">Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes</a>. Martin&#39;s pitch-framing is highly-regarded, and he also wins praise for his game-calling. His impact on the Pirates&#39; pitching staff makes the two-year, $17MM contract to which the Bucs signed him this offseason look like a very good one, Sawchik argues.</li>
<li>The <strong>Astros </strong>are rebuilding the right way, says <a href="http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=9360967" target="_blank">ESPN&#39;s Jim Bowden in a new video</a>.
 Bowden argues that GM Jeff Luhnow, manager <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/portebo03.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Bo Porter</a></strong> and new president Reid Ryan are the
right leaders for the Astros. Bowden also says the Astros&#39; top draft picks help set them up to the future. The Astros selected <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=correa000car&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Carlos Correa</a></strong> first overall in 2012, then grabbed <strong>Mark Appel</strong> with this year&#39;s top pick. They&#39;ll also have a very high pick next year. Not trying to spend their way out of last place is the right strategy for the Astros, Bowden says, because of the top picks they get as a result.</li>
<li>The <strong>Orioles </strong>are not interested in <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/garlajo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Jon  Garland</a></strong>, MASNsports.com&#39;s Roch Kubatko <a href="https://twitter.com/masnRoch/status/344219753285566464" target="_blank">tweets</a>. The Rockies <a href="http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/rockies-release-jon-garland.html" target="_self">released</a> Garland this afternoon after he posted a 5.82 ERA with 4.2 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 for them.</li>

<li>The <strong>Phillies</strong>&#39;&#0160;recent hot streak may have turned the club from sellers to buyers, argues <a href="http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/20130609_Inside_the_Phillies__Phillies__surge_leaves_difficult_decisions.html" target="_blank">Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer</a>. Brookover notes the discussion just last week was about which top players would be unloaded, whereas now it is about what pieces could be added to the young core.&#0160; </li>
<li><strong>Nationals</strong> GM Mike Rizzo downplayed <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/harpebr03.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Bryce Harper</a></strong>&#39;s visit to orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion regarding the bursitis in the outfielder&#39;s left knee, according to <a href="http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130609&amp;content_id=50102950&amp;notebook_id=50107154&amp;vkey=notebook_was&amp;c_id=was" target="_blank">MLB.com&#39;s William Ladson</a>. &quot;<em>There&#39;s no worry,</em>&quot; Rizzo said. &quot;<em>It is our protocol that players get a second opinion on any part of the body that we feel is a disabled list-type of injury. Guys get second opinions all the time here, and every guy that we put on the disabled list has gotten a second opinion.</em>&quot; Harper is eligible to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday and is expected to rejoin the team then.</li>
<li><strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/marrech01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Chris Marrero</a></strong> may be up to stay, although the first baseman is temporarily serving as the <strong>Nationals</strong>&#39; 26th man for today&#39;s doubleheader&#0160;reports <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/wp/2013/06/09/chris-marrero-called-up-to-nationals-could-stay-a-while/" target="_blank">Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post</a>. The former first rounder may help the Nationals&#39; disappointing offense get going, as Marrero has hit for a .306/.355/.502 line in 228 plate appearances.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yankees/rod_celebrity_something_cano_doesn_9PZw8MgYm7Vk3EQY4fLtYN" target="_blank">Joel Sherman of the New York Post</a> writes that the <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rodrial01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Alex Rodriguez</a></strong> saga hurts <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/canoro01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Robinson Cano</a></strong> in&#0160;his negotiations with the <strong>Yankees</strong> in a way you might not expect.&#0160; While Rodriguez’s record deal looks like it has soured from a value perspective, Sherman argues that the negative attention the contract has gotten has been even more detrimental. Cano is the top ranked free agent on <a href="http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/2014-mlb-free-agent-power-rankings.html" target="_blank">MLBTR&#39;S 2014 Free Agent Power Rankings</a>. &#0160;&#0160;</li>

        <summary>Jayson Stark&#39;s latest Rumblings &amp; Grumblings column for ESPN came out yesterday; here are some highlights. There have been enough informal conversations between Miguel Cabrera and the Tigers on a contract extension that both sides expect a deal to get done, a friend of the player tells Stark. The tricky part is that a new deal would begin with the 2016 season, at which point Cabrera will be 33. It seems likely that Cabrera would need an average annual value in the $30MM range, but Stark&#39;s sources picture anywhere from three to five additional years. <ul>
<li>There have been enough informal conversations between <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cabremi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Miguel Cabrera</a></strong> and the <strong>Tigers</strong> on a contract extension that both sides expect a deal to get done, a friend of the player tells Stark. &#0160;The tricky part is that a new deal would begin with the 2016 season, at which point Cabrera will be 33. &#0160;It seems likely that Cabrera would need an average annual value in the $30MM range, but Stark&#39;s sources picture anywhere from three to five additional years.</li>
<li>Some of Stark&#39;s sources don&#39;t consider <strong>Yankees</strong> second baseman and <a href="http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/2014-mlb-free-agent-power-rankings.html" target="_blank">#1 2014 free agent</a> <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/canoro01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Robinson  Cano</a></strong> the type of player to build a team around. &#0160;One exec, though, told Stark, <em>&quot;I can&#39;t imagine him leaving.&quot;</em></li>
<li>Stark hears <strong>Dodgers</strong> ace&#0160;<strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kershcl01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Clayton Kershaw</a></strong> seeks a ten-year deal, which would be the first for a pitcher since Wayne Garland signed a ten-year, $2.3MM deal in 1977 (those were different times). &#0160;One exec can&#39;t possibly see Kershaw leaving L.A., and could picture $200-210MM over seven years. &#0160;Even that would be well beyond <strong><a href="/players/s/sabatc.01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">C.C. Sabathia</a></strong>&#39;s record seven-year, $161MM deal, which was signed on the open market with the Yankees after the &#39;08 season and included an opt-out clause. &#0160;I feel that Kershaw&#39;s agents at Excel Sports Management have to score an opt-out in any new deal, especially with the Dodgers giving them to <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/greinza01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Zack Greinke</a></strong> and&#0160;<strong>Hyun-Jin Ryu</strong>.</li>
<li>One exec suggests the <strong>Angels</strong> offer <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/troutmi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Mike Trout</a></strong> the <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/poseybu01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Buster Posey</a></strong> deal, which amounted to eight years and $159MM in new money. &#0160;Stark says &quot;folks around the game&quot; do not see Trout signing, however.</li>
<li>The <strong>Orioles</strong> and <strong>Yankees</strong> are &quot;leading the parade of teams that already have interest&quot; in Miami&#39;s <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nolasri01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Ricky Nolasco</a></strong>. &#0160;The 30-year-old is easily the highest-paid <strong>Marlin</strong>, and should have about $7.7MM remaining on his contract at the trade deadline. &#0160;Nolasco has a 3.61 ERA in 82 1/3 innings, and sports his best strikeout rate since 2010.</li>
<li>Would anyone sign <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rodrial01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Alex  Rodriguez</a></strong>, if the <strong>Yankees</strong> end up releasing him? &#0160;<em>&quot;No chance,&quot;</em> says one executive.</li>
<li>The <strong>Marlins</strong> have shown no interest in dealing right fielder <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/stantmi03.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Giancarlo Stanton</a></strong> midseason, say clubs that have inquired, though Stark thinks <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/o/ozunama01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.com" target="_blank">Marcell Ozuna</a></strong>&#39;s emergence could push them toward trading Stanton this winter. &#0160;Stanton should return from a hamstring injury next week. &#0160;</li>
