Minor League teams need to compete too!

Screwing Tampa out of a top 50 pick makes this deal worthwhile… that said, why Shouse didn’t accept the arb offer is beyond me. Yes, I know it would then be non-guaranteed, but he made $1.5 million in ’09… you’re telling me he couldn’t A. get a bump through the arb hearing, then B. get released and collect 1/6th of his 2010 salary, and c. go find another team who would happily sign him to a minor league deal? Or even a major league deal? I have to think there is some team willing to give him a spot on the 25 man.

yes he should have accepted arbitration…yet another player suffering from poor mis-reading of the market

If Shouse is on the OD roster, the Rays can file a petition to get that pick.

So he’ll be starting the season in Pawtucket. That’s fine. It’ll give them a chance to see whether Dustin Richardson is any good.

It works like this… There is an agreement between Shouse and the Rays that he will NOT accept web. This would get Tampa compensation. If Shouse would go back on his word, he would be released and essentally black balled within the industry. It is not a mid read of the market or the player being greedy. It is simply common practice for all teams.

Did he actually think he could get more than he got through arbitrartion. He got screwed on a minor league deal.

This actually is a good signing. Bullpen depth and he can still get hitters out.
