Wow thats scary stuff. I hope Westy is okay. Best of luck to you Ryan Westmoreland!

I hate the Sox and wish them all the failure in the world, but a human life >>> anything baseball and I hope and pray that survives this ordeal and comes out better on the other end. Best wishes from a BoSox hater.

What he said.
I hope it secures your long-term health, Ryan.

Here’s hoping that Ryan Westmoreland’s health problem can be fixed. The baseball doesn’t even matter-just hope that his problem can be fixed.
If I’m the Giants, I think I’d be careful with any kind of long term contract with Sandoval. Yeah, it’s because of the weight issue. Big players like him sometimes have short careers. Will he? I hope not-he’s great fun to watch. Still, I’d be careful about tossing too much money around before I had to.

I’d give him 5/19 right now. Assuming he can still hit no matter how much he weighs.
jill
That would be an okay deal. He probably goes for awhile before the weight becomes an issue.

Wow brain surgery is a scary thing, good luck to Ryan.
04Forever
the surgery is more of a preventative measure, he has a disease that has to do with his red blood cells and makes him more likely to suffer a vicious stroke. still, brain surgery is very dangerous, hopefully everything goes well for westmoreland

Well they said he suffered a seizure last week, so I’m not sure if its “preventative.”
04Forever
i said to prevent stroke.

Red Sox prospects always have the worst health issues:
First Lester with cancer, now Westmoreland is getting brain surgery? Christ, I’d be scared to be a Red Sox prospect.
start_wearing_purple
Add Rizzo to that list… another cancer survivor.

“Nationals GM Mike Rizzo says that ‘money has nothing to do with who’s going to play and who’s not going to play,'”
Riiiight.

Hope you will recover fully from brain surgery Ryan!

Goodluck to Ryan, that is scary.
RedSoxDynasty
Young kid having to go through this is scary. Best wishes and hope for a full recovery Ryan!

Just seeing the word brain surgery gives me Goosebumps

Yeah, I don’t care how “minor” it is; brain surgery is always dangerous.

Brain surgery? That was unexpected, to say the least. Best of luck to Ryan and hopefully everything goes well with the surgery.

Ryan’s gonna be fine, i have a feeling. He doesnt need luck, because god is watching over him. Just wish him a speedy recovery.

It is scary that the guy who breaks his clavicle running into a wall also happened to have a major brain issue that could have went off at anytime.

Ortiz better have a good year this year. Not because of the option the Red Sox will surely turn down, but so he isn’t signing a minor league deal in late February next year.
ELPinchy
I think he is gone at the All star break. They won’t sit tight while he flounders again this year.

What Westmoreland has is called a cavernoma. Its not cancer. Its a leaky group of blood vessels, basically. While no brain surgery is simple, Westy is far more likely to make a full recovery than even Lester was. If all goes well, his baseball career is merely delayed a year.
We at RedSox nation appreciate the backhanded prayers for his recovery; slaps and cheapshots at us are welcome, as long as you pray for Westy. We would certainly return the favor for your guys.

For those interested:
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — The Red Sox just released a statement saying that Ryan Westmoreland underwent successful surgery to remove a cavernous malformation in his brain today. The surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Spetzler at the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
The procedure lasted five hours, and Westmoreland remains in the intensive care unit, but according to the press release from the Sox “has come through the surgery well.”
The release also said that, “Due to the complexity of this surgery, Ryan will face a difficult period initially before beginning his recovery.”
