Who wouldn’t prefer Cliff to Oswalt?
oremlk
Somebody who doesn’t want to sell half of their top prospects to get one of them?
Somebody who wants a player who will be under contract through next season?
Somebody who doesn’t want to re-sign Lee and pay him Sabathia money?
Jason_F
Your first two points are right on the money. However, the last one is really moot, because it is widely accepted that Lee will be testing the free agent market and likely going to the highest bidder regardless of what team acquires him this season via trade.
Msforever
Half their prospects? And what does Oswalt make, like 16 million? That’s pretty close to Sabathia money right there.
oremlk
Sabathia is making $23M annually. He is in an entirely different pay grade from Oswalt.
Also, I said half their top prospects, not half their prospects. I was referring, perhaps unclearly, to an organization’s top ten.
Msforever
Different pay grade? Kinda like the difference between $16 million and $9 million? And half their prospects? And I doubt Lee gets paid $23 million.
oremlk
Except Lee is only a half season rental, and after that will either depart or require a $100M+ payday to stay on (over $20M per year).
What exactly are you trying to argue here?
Msforever
My argument is simply that it’s not going to take five out of 10 of a team’s top prospects to acquire Lee. My second argument is that it’s obvious why most teams prefer Lee (Because he’s way cheaper than Oswalt)
oremlk
Except he’s not. He’s just expensive in a different way–amount of prospects required. He’ll also be more expensive if the team wants an ace for 2011 and (at the buying team’s discretion) 2012.
Go Red Sox!!
MacPhail.. What an appropriate name for anyone associated with the Orioles.

you are really quite funny. That is about the oldest joke in the book.

Dodgers moving on after season…. To Donnie Baseball or REALLY moving on?
(One vote for Tim Wallach).
invader3k
If the Dodgers “move on” from Torre after this season, does he find another managerial job after this season, or ride off into retirement?
Andrew A
I think Torre will retire after this season. He’s been coaching for 33 years, and he’s 70. As for the next manager, I think it will be Mattingly, but Wallach is an interesting option at AAA.
