What a good story. I hope Nava can stick with the Red Sox.

Nice job Ben! That article was really well written. Since the off-season, this site has transformed 10-fold. The creativity and quality of writing from regular transaction posts to original content has really improved. Keep up the good work!

Fantastic work, Ben! I love when you mix things up. This article is a very interesting read.I run the ticket office of an indy team but I’ve worked in affiliated ball before. There’s a lot of talent in independent baseball, and we hope they all make it big!

Great article. Hopefully Nava can keep it up, he’s a great story!

Yah after reading that i just have to say thanks Ben that was a great read.

Brilliant article. I am not someone who comments much, but this forced my hand. Nice work Ben. From a reader and visitor since 2006.

Something that sort of neglected in this article is that Richmond just came of the DL is currently rehabbing down in High A. It’s not as if he’s down their based on performance, which is what seems to be implied in the article.
John Meloche
Agreed… while the Jays have great depth in Pitching Richmond did a great job before his injury. I think the Jays still view Richmond as a solid back end of the rotation guy or a long reliever out of the bullpen. He seems like the predecessor to Brian Tallent for the Jays.

Nice piece. Is there a Mr. Irrelevant in baseball? I know there are zillions of draft picks, and many of them either don’t sign in the late rounds or are strictly organizational filler, but someone has to be the last person drafted, right? I’d love to hear from that guy.
jwredsox
Mike Piazza was pretty close to being drafted last I think.
ArmchairGM
He was drafted in the 62nd round, if memory serves me correctly. What a steal that was.
Steve_in_MA
63rd round.
Steve_in_MA
62nd … edit button didn’t work. Kudos to Armchair.

wish i would have seen this all-star game. missed the Trip-A game as well as i was at work. good read, though.

Great story with him and the story here. Bad one is he has options and McDonald does not, so he will be the 1st to go back to Pawtucket, undeservingly so since he seems to know the strike zone an awful lot better.

I’m glad to see an article that was actually written by one of the MLB Trade Rumors staff members. Taking material from other columnists and beat writers in manner that borders upon plagiarism hardly makes the site a resource so it’s great to see someone here actually writing and researching something original on the site. Great job, Ben.
(This isn’t a backhanded compliment. I hope to see more articles like this regularly. Hopefully Ben’s work here will inspire more.)

I meant to reply not, “like”… see comment below.

Oh, rest assured, it IS a backhanded compliment.

The site helps gather all the information floating on the web and putting it all in a coherent fashion. As the site says, “Rumors come from established journalists, and always include a link to the source material.”
Honestly, if the site is “hardly a resource” then why are you even here?
Great article! Picked up Nava after his first game in my AL-only roto league

“in manner that borders upon plagiarism”
Seriously, I almost spit my coffee out when I read this BS.

Great Read..I would love to see more stories like this on slower news days…Keep up the Great work MLBTR!!

Great article. I actual met Nava out in Boston a few nights ago at a bar. And the guy literally bought me a beer and I made a joke asking if that was half of his year’s salary. He got a good laugh out of it. It’s great to see stories like this happen to good, passionate guys like Daniel.
PS You forgot to mention that Nava ALWAYS left two tickets at will-call for ESPN reporter Erin Andrews every single game he was in Pawtucket (Red Sox AAA). The man is my hero.
tmoney352
do you have a link or anything about the Erin Andrews tix? That is just about hilarious and makes me like Nava infinitely more than I already do.
East Coast Bias
I’ll echo everyone else – great piece, Ben. Hard not to root for Nava… and that’s coming from a Yankees fan.
The_Dude_79
That’s awesome that he left tickets everyday for Erin Andrews…he has now become my hero as well.
Oops…supposed to be for the comment above this one
Fangaffes
When people start coming back off the DL, I hope Theo finds a way top trade Hermida for some bullpen help and keeps Nava.
louis_09
Great piece…I just hope Neal Huntington didn’t read this one…he might confuse “indy league” with India…and go grab a few more pitchers!

Hes a really nice dude.. The RS signed him for filler, I cant remember how long he was hitting 400 on the bench in Lancaster.
