Gio Gonzlez is a former phillie. no thanks for gio. if the phils get gio, they better get some major prospects too.

What I don’t understand is that Amaro told us he traded Lee to restock the farm system. Why would he trade Werth who is scheduled to be a Type A free agent and will net the Phils an addition first-round pick (two first rounds if they had kept Lee)? I don’t think there is anything that can be done to salvage this season.

I think he has a deal up his sleeve already to acquire a starter. Then to restock the prospects he traded away in that deal, he’ll trade Werth.

When will people get that draft picks in MLB don’t mean the same thing that they do in every other sport. So many 1st rounders in Amatuer Draft end up career minor leaguers (or leave the sport altogether). If you can trade a guy and get one or two solid AA+ guys, you would gladly take that over late 1st rounders who will be only slightly better than a crap shoot.

I really, really want them to trade Werth now. I don’t understand why Jayson’s numbers are still so good–he’s been in a slump basically since May, which leads me to think that maybe pitchers have figured him out (or that he’s just not as good a hitter as we all thought). However, I still don’t think it will happen.
