I haven’t seen a number on Eibner, but he’s a guy who seems like he could have signed months ago. I doubt he went way over slot and probably could have gained something from signing early and getting about half a season in.
jeffdg
Where would myles jaye have been drafted if he declared he wasnt going to school (apparently signed with Jays).
Eibner was injured and since he was offered above slot money, there was no reason to announce it sooner

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays got their draft deadline day started by signing 15th-round pick Zak Adams and 17th-round selection Myles Jaye on Monday afternoon.
Did anyone actually sign for slot recommendation? I get inflation, but some of the money that is being shelled out for slot seems consistently “through the roof”, or MLB recommendation needs a complete and total overhaul?
johnsilver
MLB slot needs thrown out the window more like it and Bud Selig along with it.
Triteon
I agree. Granted — most players will sign around the recommended figure, but the ones who are above slot seem way above. The Royals won’t pay major leaguers, how are they affording unproven bonus babies?

Maxmbob, some people are still stuck in the 2005 Blame-It-On-Glass Hot Tub Time Machine. They’ll come around eventually.

Several Louisiana papers are announcing Lucas Leblanc , Red Sox 11th round pick has been sign. No official word on money but some sources are suggesting 500k. Also several sources are confirming the signing of Matt Price (8th round pick of the Red Sox) for an another undisclosed amount.

I wish I got paid above slot at my job…

Glad to Sox signed Workman. His downside is that he might have to become a reliever but he will have a chance to be a starter and he only fell due to signability issues. Also, GET RANAUDO SIGNED thanks.
jwredsox
And this Sean Coyle guy sounds good too. Good hitting ability, speed, and good pop for his size. A Pedroia/Roberts type player.
Trey Mongrue, ESPN’s LSU writer, is reporting the Red Sox have signed 4th round pick Garin Cecchini for $1.75M
jwredsox
Sox are really committing a lot to their picks. Another HS SS with a high bonus. But he was projected to be a 1st round pick before he hurt/tore his ACL and projects more as a 3B
start_wearing_purple
The Sox were considered to have one of the best drafts and they seem to be getting the big names to sign. I doubt we’ll hear anything about Ranaudo until the deadline though. But my bet is they’ll give him everything he wants by the deadline.
jwredsox
Same here. Some rumors a deal may be done but they aren’t going to announce it until midnight but either way I’ll be staying up late tonight. Excited for their draft this year. With Vitek, Brentz, Ranaudo, and even Workman the Sox got great talent in their early picks and later picks were very good too.
start_wearing_purple
To be honest, I’m less excited about Workman as everyone else. I’m convinced his ceiling is set up man. Then again, a cheap reliever who can record K’s is never a bad thing.
jwredsox
For a 800k bonus that is about how much a decent middle reliever is going to cost you anyway.
RahZid
I was confused when I saw all the big names the Sox drafted. I figured it was a waste since there was no way they could sign them all… guess not.
That’s assuming they can get Ranaudo signed.
RahZid
boston.com is reporting that the Sox are near a deal with Ranaudo.
There’s been rumor that they’ve had an agreed number for awhile but they’re waiting for the deadline to turn it in. But yeah, he’s the biggest name they signed and the one they really needed to get signed.
johnsilver
Kind of a minor let down if no Duke/Jaffe to go along with Ranaudo. Always like to see them get one HS talent with an over powering FB in each draft, but saw that latest update on Sox Prospects and the medicals on Duke’s possible arm that was posted busted that hope.
gulfcoastbiased
Ranaudo is done. $4 million contract (not sure on the the years) and a $1.3 million bonus.
alan09
need to sign Zack Cox & Austin Wilson go cards
Ian_Smell
Great to hear about Allie. I wouldn’t have expected them to get a deal done so early. I’m pretty sure that the Pirates will be able to sign Taillon and if they are able to sign Heredia it would be an overall great year in terms of acquiring talent.
red sox easily have the best overall draft once the Ranaudo signing becomes official (likely 3 million $) also still possible to sign Chris hernandez . and Gran Cecchini will donate 20 K of his bonus to the Jimmy Fund.
jwredsox
3mil isn’t bad for Ranaudo at all if he signs for that much. He was a guy who was a potential #1 overall until Harper entered the draft.
absolutely ,while I was not impressed by last years draft(save Younginer and Renfroe) but this year is possibly the greatest overall draft in the Epstein era, at least on the surface as it can’t really be judged accurately for another 3-4 years.
start_wearing_purple
Fuentes has good potential, as does Hazelbaker (his bat has exploded in the last couple of months). Volz has closer potential and there’s always hope that Schwindenhammer and Head develop into their potential power… Last years draft class was decent but yes, this years has better projections.
jwredsox
I want schwindenhammer to be good just to buy a shirt with his name on it.
Fuentes is still a mystery to me, Jhaze projects as a fourth outfielder for me ,though i’ve been a huge fan throughout the season. Volz will not be a closer ,perhaps you are confusing him with Alex wilson, Brandon Jacobs who is my favorite pick from last year has great tools and head and swing the hammer both have high power ceilings. but this draft has some players with real elite potential.
jwredsox
Yeah. I’m especially excited over Vitek and Ranaudo. Vitek’s the type of guy whose bat can fly through the minors and Ranaudo was just a steal if he is healthy. And I think Younginer has big potential also.

Yay! for Littlewood!! (say that with a straight face)

Sucks the Phils couldn’t convince Frazier to sign, would’ve liked to see another big flamethrower in their system. Rumor is they offered him over $1m, but he chose Pepperdine instead.

You have to admire a guy who turns down a one million dollar payday to go to college.
