Well, Siberia does have pretty good team. Adding Lee would put them over the top.

Kudos to the Nationals–and that’s coming from a Mets fan.
Brian
Isn’t that what the Nationals said last year?
austinhb

“the Brewers were “shocked” not to see more interest in Prince before the trade deadline.”
Dude’s like 800 pounds and asking for Teixeira money while the Brewers are saying he’ll cost a boatload in prospects. I can’t think of many teams who’ll bite on that.

Not to mention that 1b is a fairly easy position to find/develop talent for. There will always be guys who can hit but can’t field or throw…
Matt Busche
agreed. The Royals have even managed to have 3 decent 1B with butler, Hosmer and Ka’aihue

Yes. I mean if you’re another organization wouldn’t it be wise to overpay Fielder for contributions he made in the past for another organization? He has all the markings of a bad contract.
Reminds me of the fat girl in school that wants to dance with everyone. she might be nice, but you gotta say no cause she might crush your foot.
baseballdude
id trade for prince fielder for a bunch of prospects . in a fantasy sports legue
wickedkevin
Nationals will probably be looking for a SP also.

I never understood how an athlete…in a sport where he only plays 6 months a year..is not in the best shape of his life…I know people who work 50 hours a week …52 weeks a year…and still find the time to hit the gym in the morning and get their cardio in.

Well…to be fair, we don’t know the reasons behind Fielder’s weight issues. Some people are, more or less, locked into their body-type due to genetics.I’m not saying he couldn’t stand to lose some weight, but there’s a big difference between being big b/c you’re lazy and being big b/c that’s how your body chooses to operate. Also, from a baseball perspective, we don’t even know if losing weight would help him as a player. He gets paid to be a middle-of-the-order, RBI machine. Look at what happened to Pablo Sandoval – the Giants put him on strict nutrition plans, and now the guy can’t hit as well as before. The human body is a weird, complex machine – for all we know, a guy like Sandoval may just be wired to operate at max capacity when he ate the way he did before. So…maybe giving Fielder/Sandoval a James Loney-type of body would make them more athletic, but there’s just as much risk that you end up breaking the player and end up with someone who hits like…well, James Loney.
Nick
Sandoval’s problems aren’t really as simple as his size, a huge reason (the primary reason in fact) has been his drop in BABIP. It’s gone from .350 last season to .297 this year, there’s your production drop off
The_Silver_Stacker
fielder definitley has the genetic makeup for being a big guy. At least he isn’t (at least yet) the size of his father cecil who was easily 300 lbs +

Do you know Prince’s body fat percentage or BMI? Yes, he is a big dude. But to me he doesn’t necessarily look “out of shape”, as so many like to insinuate. If you’ve ever looked at his arms, he is quite muscular. That power doesn’t come from fat.
alphakira
You’re right invader, but I don’t think teams are worried about him having a heart attack, they’re worried that his weight – regardless if it’s fat or muscle – will hurt his back, knees, and overall ruin his body.

The problem with Fielder is going to be the contract he demands. The higher he wants to go, the more risk-averse teams will be. He’s going to want to get paid for what he’s done in the game up until NOW. The Giants/White Sox..whoever aren’t going to want to reward him because he had a great run in Milwaukee.
He’d be incredibly valuable at the right price, but if you were to graph out the next 6-7 seasons it’s very fair to say that teams might see the gap between him and Teixeira growing VERY wide. We’ve probably seen the best seasons from Prince Fielder. But teams can’t go into a long term deal for a player that projects as a DH and injury risk. If Fielder’s bat slows down for whatever reason he’s toast.
