No disrespect to Sawks fans of course, but I have been hoping for the chance to see what kind of manager Farrell would make for a few years now. So I will be pretty pumped if [well, “when”] he nails the job! 🙂

I just don’t know how much weight you can put into Peter Gammons’ story. I’d be far more likely to believe the reports if I knew the Red Sox were interviewing pitching coach candidates. As far as we know it’s 3 educated guesses he’s going off of.

Peter Gammons:
“Told I may be preamture on John Farrell , that Alex Anthropolous last night still considering Demarlo Hale. Decision very soon”

Hey Gammons
have another scotch, Gramps

Cmon man, he’s one of the most well respected reporters in the game, if he says it, there is something behind it.
Jobus_Rum
He’s coasting on Chivas and a rep that’s been a joke for 20 years. Gonna tell me how great Bill Simmons or Mike Shaughnessy are next?
fitz
I think you mean Dan.

Why is it that pitchers don’t often make great managers? Bud Black is the only other active manager I can think of at the moment. I understand why there are so many catchers on the list, thinking through the game all the time. It just seems like pitchers are underrepresented:

Tommy Lasorda and Larry Dierker were pitchers and they made pretty good managers.

I think the main point I didn’t make well is, why are pitchers so underrepresented among managers?

I wish that he would have considered the Pirates job, I can’t imagine that someone would rather live in Canada than in Pittsburgh with bigger baseball fans, but it probably came down to the money like it always seems to.
Jobus_Rum
I’ve been to Pittsburgh, the fans are definitely bigger.
Well, wider anyway
TheLastPirateFan
Funny, but not true.

Here in Canada we like to stay healthy and in shape…Yes I’m with you with Pittsburgh fans bigger in waist size than us here!
