i think you are reading too much into it. they may have told porter that he was not going to be it. they have been leaning towards edwin for a while now. and, with limited manager jobs available, people will often take a bad job to just get the experience.

Yup. I knew the Marlins wouldn’t be bold and progressive enough to hire a brand name/respectable manager. The NL East being a one horse race is getting really old fast. The Marlins are better off accepting being non-competitive for the next couple of years and trade Hanley Ramirez for some rebuilding prospects (Mark Teixiera style). Contrary to popular belief, a manager is a big part of the team.
