Too bad, I’ve always liked Bergmann. I always thought he could catch on as a #5 pitcher, especially if the team had a good offense.

I hope the Sox can find a spot for Wakefield. The guy has always done everything and more for the team, and I really hope he ends his career in Boston.
Devan Curry
He’ll end his career here, because he doesn’t want to play anywhere else. Just depends when that career ends. Looks to be soon. Can’t keep him around for emotional reasons as much as I like him
Threat_Level_RedSox
He’s the type of guy to do whats best for the team, i really would’nt be to surprised if he retired by the end of spring training if things don’t look up.

Now follow up with fellow useless pitchers in Duckworth and Williams who have no chance of helping, especially Duckworth.

ERA G BB/K K/9 WHIP
3.74 154 2.22 7.6 1.262 reliever
4.45 440 1.73 5.9 1.359 starter
I would think that he would be better suited to come out of the pen.
notsureifsrs
there isn’t really anything surprising about those numbers. most pitchers would have similar starter/reliever splits if they did both
here’s the stat you need:
starter FIP 5.06
reliever FIP 5.11

so y nt put dice k in the bullpen n put wake as the number 5 starter.

Sometimes, you just gotta do something that doesn’t make sense.
Like abbreviate two and three letter words, for example.

I don’t know that he can pitch out of the pen all season, but makes a little sense considering many of his starts end up being only 5 innings or so.

The $1.5M being given to Timmy for 2011 is Theo’s goodbye kiss for a job well done these past 15 years… Maybe Wakefield can spend some time with Charlie Zink…if he is still in the Red Sox organization. Help Charlie fine tune his knuckler… for 2012…

He went to cardinals and twins after Boston from what I can find. Not sure about current contract status. Baseball Reference and MLB.com both seem inconclusive.
