I def like the Garcia deal for the Yanks. He isn’t elite but he can pitch a solid game more often than not and will be a bit cheaper than Buerhle.
NYPOTENCE
How about a lot cheaper than Buerhle. Buerhle will definitely reach 12mm/yr over at least three years.

Garcia is in his late 30’s and I’ll be really surprised if he somehow managed to duplicate his surprising 2011 campaign. When you say “a bit cheaper” than Buerhle, you’re kidding right? Buerhle will be asking for a huge contract and some team will give it to him. Maybe Boston since they’re desperate for starters. He might not get the 6yr/$100mil deal Wilson is seeking but I have no doubt that it’ll be at least $8mil a year for 4 years or so. Then again, Garcia came out of nowhere last year and did very well so you never know.

His season wasnt that surprising he had the same whip and xfip that he had the yr before…

Definitely agree. Garcia and Buerhle are very similar in their style of pitching and while Buerhle has shown more consistency over the last decade, at this point in time, its safe to say, they are equal back end type guys. With the frenzy for everyone to meet and offer Buerhle a contract, this was a smart move on the Yanks part and now really keeps them focused on their primary goal, find a #2 pitcher. They’re still stacked with prospects and there is still the possibility of Darvish being post.

ok Century agrees and thats great. The rest of you are a bit too hostile though. For one “a bit” can mean more to any amount you feel. Secondly Burehle isn’t getting four guaranteed years so forget about it. He is old and talks retirement every year recently. I stick by what I said that Garcia is a good value comparably. I think he provides the same back end stability with a slightly less amazing resume of health, which you could also say makes him the safer bet, because LIKE 6 consecutive seasons of 200 IP ball (Buerhle) doesn’t make me feel great about durability when your like 3-4 seasons from retirement.

I hate links to Insider articles. Well, maybe hate is too strong a word. They frustrate me when I want to read the article but am too cheap (or stubborn) to pay.

Why don’t the Jays trade Lind for a solid starter and then bring Canadian-born Prince Fielder to Toronto. Romero, Alvarez, Cecil, Morrow and let’s say Wandy Rodriguez does not look terrible on paper.
bla
He was born in Ontario, CALIFORNIA, not Ontario, Canada. But I do understand how you mistaked that, I did that the first time I read it. “Born: May 9, 1984 in Ontario, CA (Age 27)”

Damn, my bad man. I’ve been making these mistakes over the last couple of weeks don’t know what’s going on maybe should be checked. LOL what a fool

Actually, wrong. He was born in Toronto , Canada.. when Cecil was playing for the Blue Jays.

You know people neglect to consider why some pitchers have good season and sometimes not when everyone expects them too. A lot of people felt earlier in the season that Jon Lester was due and this could be a Cy Young season for him. It’s apparent he didn’t come close. Point being; I’m a big advocate of how your manager uses you and the strategy involved in the rotation. Girardi used Garcia perfectly and I expect the same. In some regard, I bet Garcia feels the same since he jumped on getting this deal done quickly. You throw a guy like CC then Garcia or a healthy Hughes throwing 96/97 and then Garcia the day after, it’s going to keep hitters off balance. Garcia is also a smart pitcher, he knows how to pitch. I don’t expect Garcia to repeat his numbers from last season, but I don’t expect them to be too much worse. You never know, he could have an even better season.
