I also think there is more payroll flexibility than being let on.
Over 3 million attendance plus 6 home playoff games along with parking, concessions, merchandise, etc., should enable a decent increase.
I see Kottaras as a non-tender, and either use Maldonado or sign someone on the cheap, maybe Mike Rivera again. If Parra is healthy, he will be back. He pitched well out of the pen.
If they are getting strained monetarily, then they definitely need to try and save some cash by giving both Gamel and Green legitimate shots.
I don’t think they will give McGehee beyond spring training to prove he can rebound. They gave him 159 games last year before they finally decided he wasn’t up to the task.
I can definitely see Mel trying to make a splash by going after Reyes or Aramis Ramirez.
If they can’t get Reyes, Barmes will probably end up as the new SS.
I could see Grady Sizemore on a low cost 1 year deal, then try and move Morgan. Logan Schaefer will probably be ready for fulltime duty in CF in ’13.
I can also see them trying to extend Greinke. Some of the young SPs are starting to be MLB ready, so Wolf or Marcum may be candidates to be moved for both salary relief and shore up some other areas.
