I still don’t understand the Quentin acquisition for San Diego. Isn’t $7 million like 20% of their total payroll? Add that to the $7 million being paid to Huston Street, and that’s a pretty excessive proportion of money going to two players for a team that really isn’t expected to contend this year.

It may be a high percentage of their payroll, but they had room to increase payroll. If I recall they said they were looking to up the budget to ~50 million this year giving them this sort of flexibility.

the payroll is closer to $60m after arbitration cases, and expected to rise gradually to $75-80m in the next few seasons. neither quentin or street have commitments past this season so its worth a 1-year gamble if its not going to hamstring the franchise and could generate extra trade value at the very least.
