An article that doesn’t even mention the loss of baseball’s premier pitching coach, Dave Duncan … fail!
Cheeseballs
Don’t forget Freese
Stromalama
It was an article about notable additions and subtractions from the team. Freese wasn’t extended or lost so why would it talk about him?
lefty177
he probably meant in the 11-paragraph summary
Madman2TX
All those personnel losses offset by Carlos Beltran? Don’t think so. Would be shocked if the Cardinals make it back to World Series.
Tony Gaeta
That’s what a lot of people said last year after signing Berkman and losing Wainwright…
JohnS
I would be shocked if a lot of teams made it to the World Series… Especially when only 2 teams make it out of 32. What a typical MLTR statement. You were also shocked they were there last year………. Duh
williemaysfield
There are 30 teams in baseball.
JohnS
typo… my bad
Lanidrac
We also get Wainwright back (making Jackson completely expendable), Romero replaces Rhodes, and most of the other players we lost have been easily replaced in-system.
Tom Rayhawk
No beltran doesnt’ replace Pujols. No one in the world does. However, look at 2-6 in out lineup _ Beltran, Holliday, Berkman, Freese, Molina(who I bet few knew led our team in batting average) – solid as anyone. Probably even more significant is the maturation of our youngsters. Freese – if he stays healthy is a proven can hit .300 15-20 80 RBI’s and has always been a clutch hitter even before his ridiculous postseason. Crag, once he comes back, has consistently put up big power numbers over 4 professional seasons in the minors and sure as hell wasn’t intimated in the world series, being the most underappreciated contributer. Our Bullpen youngsters have grown up and are greatly improved. We have a legitimate top NL closer now in Motte. People forget who led our team in wins and ERA – Lohse. Garcia will continue to mature after two solid 1st and 2nd year seasons. Wainwright is not going to have to wait a year to exhibit his best stuff – as the typical tommy john contention is. I believe he’ll have another top tier season, contending for the cy young. Carpenter out is a HUGE HUGE problem. though. But we lost Wainwright the entire season last year and I think we ended ok and Carp should be back in couple of months.

We’re not getting any love from the Baseball world. Everyone thinks the Reds will take the division. WHAT! When everyone said this last year I agreed but not this year. Even with the loss of AP, Dunc and Larussa.
josh 36
they have an all around better team. easy. Vegas and sports illustraed agree witth me.
headsupkid01
They don’t have better starting pitching.
headsupkid01
They don’t have a better middle of the line up.
rayking
False. They didn’t have Wainwright and they started the season with Kyle McClellan in the rotation. There is no conceivable argument that this year’s rotation is worse than last year’s.
Stromalama
They do not have an all around better team. The Cards are better from top to bottom.
Lanidrac
The Cardinals’ #3 starter (Garcia) is just as good as the Reds’ new “ace” Latos.
dc21892
One thing I can say about the Cards is even with Pujols gone, they have some strong veteran leadership all along the club and it comes from guys who are still able to produce at a high level even in their mid 30s.
Stromalama
Don’t forget about getting Waino back.
