Not sure if happy Tribe signed former All-Star and future All-Star to extensions, or sad that the Dolans aren’t selling.

Great, that means the idea of the Indians contending anytime soon is also “silliness”.

A new owner isn’t the solution in Cleveland. Someone who is less leveraged would certainly be able to increase the payroll somewhat, but any team in that city will not be able to sign players long term.
Look at what is happening in Minnesota. Joe Mauer got BOOOED the other day. (or so I’m told.) Not so long ago the Twins were being hailed as THE small market team. Now, they have two boat anchor contracts that will weigh the team down even if Mauer and Morneau produce. The same thing is about to happen in Cincinnati with Phillips and Votto. Signing these players guarantees they won’t be able to put a solid team around them.
Small market clubs simply cannot sign players to the same kind of contract as large market teams. This isn’t Dolan’s fault. It is just the truth.

In December of 1959, the White Sox traded Cash to the Indians for Minnie Minnoso (there were a number of the other players involved.) The Indians GM, Frank “Trader” Lane seemed to have trade-tourettes. He sent Cash to Detroit the following April for Steve Demeter.
