Wait, there’s a 7 day DL in the majors too?
goredsgo
i thought the exact same thing
Koby2
I’m glad I’m not the only one. Maybe they put that in with the new CBA and nobody noticed.
Phillies_Aces35
I thought it got implimented last year? … just nobody needed it.
Lastings
Erick Almonte, I believe was the first person to be on the Major League seven-day DL last season…
Phillies_Aces35
Ah. Nobody I’ve heard of at least.
Lastings
I don’t even think Erick Almonte’s parents have heard of him…
Zach 12
Yes, only for head related injuries.
Koby2
Ah, makes sense then.
mwagner26
Sign Zambrano up.
aemoreira81
LOL, but it’s for head injuries, not headcases.
bglaszcz
Yeah it went in last year. If you have concussion sypmtoms you can be put on the 7 day DL to get checked out. I’m pretty sure Brian Roberts went on it last year.
Johnny_Champagne
I’m pretty sure if MLB instituted a 365-Day DL Brian Roberts would be the first one to sign up. Unless that new Red Sox pitcher makes it a PRIORity to get there first.

Mariano Rivera is a machine. He doesn’t do “DL stints”.
Snoochies8
It’s not a DL stint, it’s temporary stop into the mechanics to have his knee joints oiled and refitted

I really hope this isn’t the end for Mo. I want so badly to cheer for him during his last game here at Fenway. Tons of respect for him as a player.

Torn ACL for Rivera 🙁
ARod's Ring
are you kidding me? Career over…. David Robertson ERA starts now!
aemoreira81
Sadly, not kidding. I see Rafael Soriano and David Robertson being given turns at the position of closer to see who seizes it. David Robertson was a closer in college.
As for Rivera – of all the ways to have your career end – this is perhaps the one I never saw coming.
metsman
My heart sunk watching him fight back tears. He clearly wasn’t ready to even contemplate ending his career. I hope he is able to beat the odds and come back at least for a year or two so he can retire on his own terms.
aemoreira81
Rivera was hoping to make that decision during the summer. If he was younger, I could see him trying to come back…but he really does have nothing left to prove.
metsman
really? I couldn’t see him “trying”…only succeeeding, because that’s really the only thing that man has ever done! Honestly though, I’m sure his family would love to have him home with them, and I think the next step for him could be coaching.
Either way, I wish him the best. I’ll even go this far… If the Mets don’t get anywhere this year (imagine that) I will take a break from my Yankee hating to root for them and hopefully Mariano can get one more peice of jewelry before he hangs it up. He’s one of the Guys I used to watch play in AA when they used to have a team in Albany.

Time to trade for Brandon League.
omavricko

Anonymous Mcgee
Id’d do that deal, if the Mets-save $10m/yr
