The wheels haven’t fallen off the Mets train yet, so I’m really not keen on the idea of moving Dickey, even if the article in Rising Apple was simply pure speculation. The Beltran trade was a no-brainer, especially when it yielded a great prospect in return. It’s a different story this year because, even though the Mets may find a way to mess it all up, they are still in contention heading into the all-star break. The Mets have been a huge surprise this season and Dickey has been a huge part of their success. Plus, he’s a bargain AND a great story for New York.

So what do people think the Phillies could get for Cole Hamels? This is a serious question as I am curious, please don’t troll. It’d have to be value for both sides, so any throwaway prospect trade ideas are probably unrealistic.

That blog says Castellanos plus lesser prospects. I’d almost rather it be Turner plus some lesser(s). But I’m not sure if the tigers want him in a rental

I think the Philllies would be ecstatic for either one of those prospects. If the Tigers build a deal around one of them, the Phillies would be hard pressed to say no, imo.

I’d personally rather see the Tigers hold onto both Turner and Castellanos… but if they are traded, I’d rather it not be for a rental.
Pitching also hasn’t really been too much of an issue(at least starting pitching). It’s that our bats can’t drive in runs. I’d rather have Pence… but again. a rental. Wonder what it’d cost to keep him. I know the Tigers won’t have 4 20 mil players

Pence has another year of arbitration, he is not a rental.

This I like to hear…

It’d be in Phillies best interest to trade him, unfortunately I can guarantee he won’t be on the block this year…maybe this winter.

The only thing I could suggest is to look at similar circumstances for rentals in the past (C.C., Cliff Lee, etc.) and then add in the new kicker of 2 more wild card teams, so more teams that think they are in contention can drive up the price a tad (or a lot).

The truth is probably less this year than last year under similar circumstances. Since the new compensation rules require a player to be on a team for an entire season I think teams are less likely to trade for a potentially high priced rental. Any team that trades for Hamels would have to be ready to outbid everyone in the FA market.
The article mentions 2 potentially interesting possibilities: The Dodgers and the Orioles. However since the Dodgers don’t seem to have a blue-chip prospects and the Orioles would likely refuse to move a blue-chip prospect, the point seems moot.
I still think the most likely scenario would see Hamels returning to the Phillies. Then again, I said the same thing about Pujols… so LA could always be in Hamels future.

“I refuse to consider the Red Sox, who despite their record are in last
place in the AL East. No last place team should be buying.”
Seriously? What a cop out. The Red Sox were actually ahead of the Jays (who he does consider) in the standings at the time, not in last place. But even if you go back to when they were in last place (2 days before the article was written) they were only 4 games out of the wild card, and had a better record than the 3rd place tigers, who he says are one of the most likely teams to go after Hamels.
