Jason Bay needs to retire at this point. I feel bad for him but he’s become a walking injury, can’t seem to go more than a month without getting banged up somehow. He had a very good career until he went to the Mets. Tough to blame them for signing him, even though he was overpaid, he was one of the most consistent OF bats for a while.

Personally, I would not tell a player in his prime to retire. Though everything you state is logically correct and makes sense, I can’t see him walking away from at least $19MM in the next two years.
It’s a shame how his career has gone since coming to the Mets. He hustles, he has a good attitude and he really puts out 100% everyday. Having seen him regularly since his days with the Red Sox and now the Mets, you can easily read the body language and his frustration concerning his play.
Here’s hoping things get better for a good guy.

Jason Bay is snakebit.

He’s a hard worker and a reliable fielder too. I was really hoping he’d do well after the last broken rib injury. Snakebit is a perfect description. Poor Jason. How could he be so good for those 7 years before coming to the Mets? What the heck caused his trouble here? I’ll never really get it . . .

Jason Bay just needs a change of scenery. Unfortunately, that won’t happen with his contract. lol
