We’d better not be trading Cody Ross today >:|

Wouldn’t mind seeing what they can get for Ells…
Though I lie Ross and want him hear for a couple of years.

Why are the Brewers going to hold onto Marcum? The Orioles could have given up Kevin Gregg for him. The salaries are similar. They are both free agents at the end of the season. If Marcum can’t get himself together, the O’s could release him and have an open roster spot and the Brewers would still have Gregg. I mean my understanding is that Marcum has cleared waivers, the Brewers are going nowhere, so what would they have to lose by trading him?

Why would the Brewers want Gregg for Marcum?
Mark Ludwig
I can not imagine that he made it to the AL. Marcum would have certainly been claimed by LA after Billingsley’s injury and likely would have been claimed by Pittsburgh as well after they released Bedard. My guess is simply that whoever did claim him first (and I really think that it was likely the Pirates) were not willing to give up whatever the Brewers wanted in exchange for 4 starts by Shawn Marcum.

The Brewers already have a big enough collection of arsonsists down in their bullpen. Why would they want to add Kevin Gregg? All things being equal (re: both players being free agents at the end of the year) a marginal starter > a marginal reliever.

Marcum is a tad better than marginal though… and at this point in his career, Kevin Gregg is probably less than marginal.

Agreed. I was giving Gregg the benefit of the doubt for compariosn purposes. As I showed in another post here recently, Marcum has been quality 3-4 starter material for the past four seasons.

The Brewers have plenty of arms that will get innings in September, and would have zero use for Gregg. As was already stated, I’m sure somebody in the NL claimed him, but wasn’t willing to give up anything of value – The remainder of Marcum’s deal isn’t a hindrance, and I bet the Brewers will have some interest in retaining him beyond this season, depending on the price. In that way, it doesn’t hurt to keep him with the organization.

You guys are tough bunch.
Anyway, the way Miguel Gonzalez is pitching tonight the O’s wouldn’t even need King Felix at this point. At least I didn’t get 15 dislikes this time.

I am starting to think Cubs will hold Sori. – or at the very least not pay his whole contract in a trade. They do still have to win games and its not like he is crippling them by taking a lineup spot. They should have ditched lahair when he was hot though.

Hmm, I would have thought the Cardinals would look at Ronny Cedeno if this injury happened earlier in the month.

Skip will definitely start to get some deserved playing time at the two bag then. Descalso should fill in nicely…Let’s just hope Kozma is swept under the carpet on this one. I could definitely do without having to bear witness to THAT more than I have to already.
