James Loney isn’t the long term answer?! Wow, I’m shocked…
Wek
No, Looney is not the answer. Lars Anderson is…
andyr
Lars Anderson was supposed to be the answer 2 years ago. Loney is better than him now.

Jerry Sands doesn’t even catch a glimpse eh?

Oh, they’re definitely not for sale then? Just like Adrian Gonzalez definitely wasn’t, right? Come on…they’re posturing now. Float out a $1.3B figure and then back down, try to get the price up and see where it goes. They’d sell the team if the right offer came in.

Gomez has slugged almost 50 homers in AAA the last two seasons and has shown the ability to hit the ball decently in limited time in the majors. I wouldn’t consider him a long-term solution, but you might have a guy that could put up decent numbers if given a full season. After watching guys like Reddick and Lowrie produce, I really wish the Sox would go out on a limb and give an unproven player a shot at an everyday role. I think we get into this state where we automatically feel like every position has to be filled via trade or signing nowadays, which is the wrong attitude.

They should give an unproven player a shot at an every day role? You mean like Aviles, Saltalamacchia,
Ross, Middlebrooks, Doubront… Yeah, they never do that.Al Paca
Maybe give Salty a shot at learning 1B? Make an offer for Morales? Bring Vmart back?
Dynasty22
Salty’s OBP isn’t even qualified to be a starter, let alone a starting 1B.

Mat Gamel did well before he got injured. I think he is a nontender candidate, he just doesn’t have a spot in Milwaukee anymore.
