Must have a new agent by now
East Coast Bias
You know what the funny part is… he would still be making over $85,000 per year during that stretch.
Kinda puts things in perspective, huh?

Did someone mention veteran starter???

I think the most interesting thing will be how Duquette approaches the rotation. They already have a lot of options, but they lack the true ace. imo, I think even edwin jackson or even dempster wouldn’t provide a significant upgrade, and that they should be targeting Grienke or just stick with their rotation. neither dempster nor jackson are true aces on playoff teams, and would only marginally improve the rotation while disproportionately elevating payroll. if Angelos is willing to open up his wallet for a true superstar (as mentioned with tejada and belle), Grienke should be the guy, not Hamilton.
I could see Bundy coming up mid season (in a few months so he doesn’t hit super 2 status), and Grienke and Bundy would be a pretty powerful 1-2 combo.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but there’s absolutely no chance that the O’s will sign Greinke.

You should take it further, there’s “NO” chance of the Orioles doing anything. Duquette is convinced this current team is only a few hits away from the ALCS, I think they were very lucky to have gotten to playoffs.

I don’t think Duquette thinks that or will ever think that. Duquette may not be the smartest guy we’ve had, but he appears to be the most in touch. He knows what this team needs to compete. He already said he will make some moves to improve the team, I just don’t think they will, for the most part, be the type of moves that are going to make the fan base happy.

I’d put chances of Greinke way above chances of Hamilton. Angelos is an old dude with a boatload of money and really wants to see the Orioles win. Not saying Greinke will happen, but this is the first off-season in a long time where I know Angelos is laying money on the table if DD wants it.

The fact is they need a true Ace.
We’ve all known it for a very long time. We’ve also seen them prove that they aren’t willing to pay for an Ace, either in years if not money. Maybe they can trade for it, but it would cost a huge piece of the system, so it’s unlikely. So, the only option is to grow it internally. That said, for the first time in a very very long time, the Os have two arms who both look like they could be those types of dominant #1 starters already in the system.

I have no idea how mlb trade rumors is setting up their “offseason outlook” schedule. I thought they were going in reverse standings order but they are jumping all around instead.
Broken Jar of Hot Wing Sauce
I’m confused. First it’s I should expect low profile moves, then Hamilton, Swisher, and Melky are brought up… So which one is it?
And for the record, as an O’s fan myself, no thanks to all 3
basemonkey
It’s only this blog who is bringing up those guys. This blog has nothing to do with the Os.

The 2012 pitching staff has proven that groundballers that feature a sinking fastball tend to thrive at Camden Yards. Duquette’s been smart in keying in on that specific HR-suppressing characteristic (e.g. Chen, O’Day, Miguel Gonzalez, Hammel, etc..). I expect that particular feature to be sought after.

I just want them to make a trade for James Shields…

Melky? No way. Anyone linked to performance enhancing drugs is more or less off limits ever since Tejada put this team in the middle of the Mitchell Report scandal. That’s not the kind of press this team wants.
Swish? There’s no way in the world his personality fits Showalter’s style of player. He’s frankly too entitled, cocky, show-boater, and a braggart to be Showalter’s brand of gamer. Given a range of imperfect options, I think Showalter would rather go with the right persona in the clubhouse and fit him in, rather than the right guy on paper, and patch over personalities.

You know the Orioles RESIGNED Tejada this year right? He never made it out of AA because he wasn’t hitter, but we brought him in to play 3B early on.

I think it would potentially would have been part of the deal if they called him up, having to occasionally deny he ever used. Melky is a known recent infractor, so I dont see how you can justify bringing him on.
