An Iglesias for Profar trade also makes sense for the Red Sox. However like an Andrus for Ellsbury swap my bet is the Rangers say “No.”
Ben_Cherington
Took the words out of my mouth! What a bad article!
start_wearing_purple
Exactly. Most of the article are reasons to get rid of Ellsbury followed by reasons Andrus would be good for the Sox. Add to it, he ends the article saying the Sox would have to throw in a prospect, so how does that make sense for the Sox? Sell low and give up a prospect… yeah sure whatever.

Completely agree. You have be living in a Red Sox-centic Universe to believe that 2 years of Andrus is only worth 1 year of Ellsbury. There would have to be far more than a bit of pot sweetening to get 2 years an all-star SS for a player who has missed the kind of time Ellsbury has with injury.
Ben_Cherington
Well, having said that, Ellsbury has a lot more potential. His major issues are signability and staying on the field.
LazerTown
My thoughts exactly. Trade makes absolutely no sense for the Rangers unless you throw in a few good prospects.

In what world would I trade Ellsburry for Andrus? Is he even serious? I’ll need to get Andrus and 2 more prospects and I might think about it.
EightMileCats
I’ll assume that’s sarcasm.
An injury plagued OF with 1 MVP caliber season and some partial seasons(due to injury)that were solid.
And a durable SS who plays to notch D and makes good contact.. And has an extra year before FA.
It’s the BoSox that’d have to include prospects
NYPOTENCE
I’d take Andrus over Ellsbury in a heartbeat.

An Open Letter was penned to Duquette just to mention “O” BTW how about Jason Bay? Good Gravy Man!
NYPOTENCE
Don’t know if the Nationals would be better without Michael Bourn but they would certainly still be formidable without him.
EightMileCats
I don’t know that Bourne is the answer(too many SO)for a pure lead off hitter.
But I do think they’d be better off with a true lead off hitter so Werth can slide down in the order
Bob Bunker
ellsbury to the nationals for morse and a pitching prospect seems more likely than ellsbury for andrus. the problem is the sox need pitching, ss, and power hitting which teams are unlikely to give up for ellsbury. morse is probally worth a little less than ellsbury so i dont know if the red sox would do that trade but it seeems more likely than the rangers giving up andrus.
EightMileCats
The problem really is Ells has been oft injured and is basically unable to be signed to an extension.
When he’s healthy, he’s one of the top players in the game.. But who’s going to give up much for 1 year of Ells if he stays healthy.
Last 3 seasons Ells has played 18 games, 158, and 74…
Not an inspiring record

Top players in 2011. No other season in his career did he show anywhere near that much power. I’ll believe it when he repeats that kind of power.
