If the Pirates need SP and RP, they can hook with the Mets for trade 3.0 and get Colon and Dice K in a fairly cheap deal. Mets can even afford to eat some of Colon’s salary to get the right deal done.
As for Benoit, judging by Street’s final price, perhaps the Tigers CAN get involved. I wouldn’t count them out of that one just yet.
James Ferraro
Colon and dice k are not as good as what we have now. Move would not make any sense.

Do we even need a starting pitcher? Cole has his spot locked down, so does Morton, so does Liriano (his start yesterday was encouraging), Locke has been pitching well, and Volquez has been solid.

You can never have too much starting pitching when in a playoff race. Cole is not healthy, Liriano is just now getting back and is a work in progress (I agree about his start yesterday), Locke has been good this year but imploded last year, and Volquez has frankly been a godsend but his peripheral numbers suggest possible regression. And I am not counting on Vance Worley: he has been mostly good, but he could be just as helpful in the bullpen.
I like Kennedy. He’s not as good as this year or as 2011, but he isn’t as bad as 2012-2013 either. He is a strikeout pitcher, not a “pitch-to-contact” pitcher. He is reliable: at least 31 starts each of past 4 years and on pace again this year. Would I give up the farm for him? No. Would I give up prospects outside of our top 5 to top 10? Yeah, I think I might.

Kennedy and Benoit for Meadows, Bell, Heredia and Tabata.
James Ferraro
No way!!!! Would not give bell alone.

That deal works for Price or Hamels, not Ian Kennedy. Know your product.

Do you think the Padres are asking less for Kennedy than they were for Street? It always amazes me how much people overvalue prospects. You could probably get a deal done for Kennedy for the 1st 3. Take a look at what it took to get Street.
Tabata is overpaid and the Pirates will have to pay a nice size chunk of his remaining $10 million in salary if they want to ship him off. The Pirates think so little of him right now that didnt they outright him from the 40 man roster?

Headley to the Blue Jays would be a nice rental.
